In need of some education as I think I have overloaded my brain trying to read on google to many results and different things.

Can anyone tell me what normal idle temps should roughly be around on my hardware (see Sig) I understand there may be factors like how cool is the case is it in the open or a confined space etc.

During idle there is not much going on except for maybe a YouTube video and some background processes - I realize this will change when I am gaming.

I just want to start monitoring my temps to make sure they are safe and withing reason - If anything goes wrong I can go back and look at what maxed out.

I tried setting up rainwater last night on my 2nd monitor so I could easily have my eye on everything whilst gaming but it didn't go to well trying to run it with Hwinfo I could not get my CPU and GPU to show.

What do you guys recommend for safe temps and monitoring software?

I use hwinfo64 and it seems to work well. HWmonitor in my experience can be glitchy. I've also used core temp to keep track of the CPU temperature.

I would expect the CPU to be idling around 30C in a standard room. I've found the GPU will usually be idling slightly hotter, but it depends on a number of factors.

I use aida64 for as monitoring tool of choice but it's possibly a little overkill for just temps.

As to temps, my i7 4790k is currently idling at 25C (all cores under this temp) with a 240mm aio rad so as yours is supposed to be cooler I'd also say no more than 30C.

My GPU runs about 10-15C hotter than my cpu at idle.

That Aida looks really informative - I would like to see things like RAM GPU usage as well not limited to just temps - Thanks I might check this out tonight.

My GPU was idling warmer than my CPU - I think my CPU was around 30 odd but cant confirm since I couldn't get the tools to work correctly.

30 would be about right with a 212 Evo. I used to run an i5 4670K with a 212 and it would usually idle between 30-35 depending on weather and time of year.

HWiNFO64 sensors and RivaTuner FPS display in the System Tray (I like to play games in windowed mode so don't need the on-screen display).

From left to right:

FPS - Vcore - core clocks - uncore clock - CPU usage - CPU temp - GPU usage - GPU temp - GPU memory usage - RAM usage

Doing some encoding so CPU usage/temp is high.

I7-6700k @ standard clock - around 23c idle / 60c-65c under load

980ti idle @ 30-33c / underload around 67c - 73c
