Hi All

seems to Idle areund 44-45c prime load around 71c

Are these temps ok?? as they seem a bit high especially as im using the H70 cooling solution.

I installed one for a friend this afternoon. He has an i5 [email protected]. Idles around 30ºc and under full load it's around 52ºc.
Ambient was 20ºc, both fans are standard.

Im using the Gigabyte Motherboard

Cpu Enhanced Halt (C1E) = Disabled
C3/C6/C7 State Support = Disabled

do you think I need to enable both of those then as I thought when oc you need them disabled ?

Try enabling Cpu Enhanced Halt (C1E) first.

Not sure about the other one.

You don't have to disable it to overclock as it should go to full power under load.

Just tried that and so far I have noticed in core temp the cpu frequency is now lowered and flickering around different levels but the cpu core voltage seems to be at 1.232 regardless

Hmm, could be something working in the background making it fluctuate causing the volts to stay at maximum.

I seem to remember there was something posted a while ago about some settings you can alter to set a minimum and maximum Vcore on a Gigabyte x58 UD5 with a i7 920, don't know if this will apply for your cpu and board though.

Will have a look for it and post back.

With such a modest over clock I would certainly have them enabled. I tend to only disable when I am going sub-zero and really pushing the over clock to the limit.

As to how to set the max voltage with the UD range of boards - just set the voltage in the bios it is really easy to do. If you get stuck post here and I will walk you through it.

I have set the bios vcore voltage to 1.25 but I have noticed under prime or just idle the vcore voltage stays at 1.23

I thought that because it was only using that I would lower the vcore in the bios to lower than 1,25 as it never seems to use it although if I do even though everything reports its still only using vcore of 1.23 prime blue screens after about 20 mins , leaving the bios vcore on 1.25 prime seems to run fine weird eh !!

Think this may be V-drop or whatever it is called, try raising Vcore up a notch to compensate.

With the Bios set to Vcore 1.25 the system runs fine in prime , in prime reports it is using 1.232 Vcore when running blend test

when the system is Idle it still reports the system is only using 1.232 Vcore

so I am confused how raising the Vcore up a notch would help ? as Ideally I want the Vcore to drop lower than 1.232 when Idle

You may not have found your max vcore fore a stable overclock yet if it blue screens after 20 mins.

If you can enable DVID on your board, you should be able to set a lower vcore for when it is idle, but you will need to know your correct stable vcore.
