Temps okay or reseat heatsink?

Hi all,
I am currently running an Antec 900 case with all fans on low, with an E6300 @ 3.25Ghz 1.4v vcore.

The cpu fan is a Zalman 9700AT, which I'm pretty sure I installed correctly, but judging on my idle temps, i'm not too sure.

Idle cpu temp is 41c but both cores are at 50c idle, would you say this is normal or should I get it a bit cooler with this setup @ 1.4v?

50c seems a little high.

A reseat using the bare minimum of paste would be worth a try.

Don't have any compound with me atm, so I just took the fan off and redistributed the existing compound with my finger.

Temps now idling 48c, so I think I should invest in some arctic silver.

Were you able to cover the whole chip?

If so then you may have had a little too much on it the first time. But I would still seriously consider spending a fiver on a tube of AS5 or MX-2.

No, when I took the hsf off I could read the stepping on the chip, I just moved a bit over to evenly distribute it, still a little bit transparent.

The stuff on the chip is the packaged compound that comes with the Zalman

Was there much stuck to the heatsink?

I would certainly get some more paste and do it right.

Yeah, thanks for your help and quick responses mate :)

Gona order a tube now, there was some stuck to the heatsink around the rim.

Cleaned off the original paste, and put on a thin layer of AS5. Temps have reduced by 2 degrees c.

Guessing I should have tried this earlier, but I decided i'd go back to stock volts and stock fsb (266). My idle temps are 35c now on both cores rather than the previous 50c while overclocked.

I guess this chip just runs hot while overclocked at that speed, at least I know it's fairly normal now and nothing is wrong with how i've installed the cooler.

I'm gona keep it running @ 3.25Ghz anyway 1.4vcore, as I don't really care much for this chip, got it free from work anyway.

Wish intel would bring out the newer quads already, I really don't see the point in upgrading just for games

You'll be fine at those temps I would suggest, what sort of load temps do you get? I've got a very similar set up, I'm at 3ghz with 1.3v and I idle at 45 on a good day, but have been idling with the hot weather recently at almost 60

Hey I recently played about with my settings, I settled on 3ghz (429x7) @ 1.3v (1.25v with vdroop) and it is orthos stable, so i'm gona stick with that.

Idle temps @ 3ghz = 33c, Load temps (full load): 56c

Fairly happy with that, don't think the extra 250mhz does much, gives me an extra 200 points in 3d mark 06 and thats it. Pretty good temps for today's weather in the UK i think.
