Temps too high - 4690K

Hey all.

Just built a rig with an i5-4690K and Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler but under games I'm hitting anywhere between 65-75C. This seems a touch high - is it worth me reapplying the paste (I just used the stuff that came with the cooler), or should I give it time?

I'm at stock speeds and this seems too high in my mind.

That does seem high for a custom cooler at stock speeds but doesn't Haswell run pretty hot anyway? IIRC temps are meant to be similar to Nehalem (whereas Westmere, Sandy Bridge, and Ivy Bridge were cooler)...could be wrong though.

Got a friend with same chip, slightly different cooler and better GFX who is struggling to hit 50C. Going to get the Akasa cleaning & paste kit and give a new paste application a whirl.

Your aftermarket cooler seems to be performing like the Stock Intel heatsink.
Like suggested if volts aren't correct then correct them if volts are okay then assuming the heatsink isn't seated correctly or the application of paste when seating has somehow gone wrong!

My 4690k idles in the mid 20s and under load for over an hour playing BF4 for example 40/45c and using Intel Burn touches high 40s.

Cooler is a Corsair H60 within a Corsair 450D.

Just to give you another experience.

I found out what went wrong. And you can laugh: I left the "remove before use" sticker on the base of the heatsink. Surprised I didn't fry my chip or melt the plastic. Everything fine. Now hitting 52C tops.

Lol.

That made for an amusing read, Thank you for forgetting to remove the sticker :p

Yea...I done goofed.

Pretty sure my heatsink had a plastic tray rather than anything that needed peeling. I doubt it'd have been installable with the tray still on!

Some of mine came in a little tray, others with the sticker. Whilst ive always remembered to remove the sticker, alas sometimes ive forgot to plug the fans in. Was actually pretty surprised at how well a passive TRUE 120 coped with an i7 920 @3.6ghz.:D
