which max temp reading do you go by when overclocking your cpu.cpu reading which is always a few c lower than the core temps.amd state max temp 65, does this mean the cpu reading or the core reading any help please.i have everest and core temp and they are close to each other on readings.when running prime core readings get very close to 65 while the cpu reading is a few c below. thanks

I would go by CoreTemp, and not let it get above 60C. 55C if you're paranoid like me :D CoreTemp shows the actual temp of the cores themselves, Everest/Speedfan will show the IHS temperature (slightly lower, usually).

Out of interest, hows the overclocking going? Do you know what stepping yours is?

I've got a 3800x2 clocked at 2.4GHz and it idles at @45-50 degrees, and under load rarely exceeds 60. This I find perfectly acceptable, although I will be getting a Freezer 64, as everyone loves lower temps, and I have plans to get this to 2.8HGz.

So to answer your question, stick with the readings from Coretemp. Ideal temps would be idling at 30-35, load not exceeding 50. However, under 60-65 I would say is fine.

Are you on a stock AMD cooler?

Im running a 6000+ with a 333mhz overclock and +0.1v - about 40dg idle and 55dg (peak) under 100% load.

Arctic Freezer Pro Cooler.

i am using a Asus Silent Square CPU Cooler. should i notice a temp drop straight away or does it take a few days before i notice anything. i have used as5 for the paste and just applied a drop in the midddle. i have a freezer pro on a spare pc. do you think that would be better or just give the asus time to bed in.
