Hi guys just built my system and posted it, all went okay now im doing a soak watching the temps in bios. Just wondered what is a good temp.

I have a amd 64 X2 4200

At the moment its at 39 C after 15 min

TBH don't worry about temps as long as they stay under 55. Your motherboard will almost certainly be lying to you in every respect when it comes to temperature. If that's the retail HSF then it sounds good.

Right left it on soak for 2 hours last night and the cpu temp went down to 37 C and sat their all the time.

So all seems okay atm, did not think that was too bad with the out of the box heat sink and fan.

37C is a very good temp. I have an X2 3800+, which idles at 29C and loaded does about 36-38C.

Hope everything goes ok for you now it's all up and running :p

37C in the BIOS isn't all that useful though is it? Load up an OS and test it with something like Prime95 or CPUBurn or both since it's a dual-core with something like Speedfan to monitor the temps. That will give you a better indication.

Right i downloaded Prime 95 last night and ran it for just over 2 hours.. with two instances running my cpu was running over 90% all the time mostly at around 95% and the Cpu temps never went about 47 C .

Is this good ? or should i have left it for longer ? also this is on the stock HS & fan.

also having things like q-fan or cool and quiet enabled will affect what temperatures you will see.......

q-fan - enabled - cpu speed norm / temperatures higher / fan slower
- disabled - cpu speed norm / temperatures lower / fan at full speed

cnq - enabled - cpu speed throttled / temperatures lowered / fan slower
- disabled - cpu speed norm / temps higher / fan at full speed
