I always wonder about these "studies" or whatever they call them, how is there any question about putting a kid in a room with a marshmallow?

I mean what do they really expect to learn from this exercise besides children + marshmallow = no marshmallow in 9/10 cases, the 1/10 times the kid doesn't chow down is because he's so completely uninterested in the whole thing and will probably grow up to be an accountant.
 
I'm sure I remember reading that the kids who don't eat in these tests are more successful in later life because they better take into account future gains or something like that.
