Gibbo any chance you can help put me out of my misery - at 1920x1200 is the x1900xt worth waiting for (over the x1800xt)

a simple yes or no will do :)

Well you gotta think what you wanna do m8.

£280 gets you a card that will hanndle 1920x1200 with relative ease.....

Your gonna be paying £400 upwards for an X1900 and higher dependent which model you go for. Yes the X1900 will be faster, approx 20% in most games, but if you like shader intensive games like Fear then that performance increase could be a lot more. Make your choice but don't hang about as unless ATI give me more money those cards go back upto £275 ish +VAT tomorrow which is like a £40-£50 price jump over the current amazing price they are at. :)

Whats the noise level like on the X1800XT's in 2d? Im not over fussed about 3d noise while im gaming, but idle, would i need to change cooler to get it silent?

The X1800's and X1900's use the same cooling solutions, in fact the X1800 and X1900 side by side look like identical cards. Both of them operate in silence in 2D mode and increase to a gentle humm when under heavy load. :)

the question is, £280 for a X1800XT, or £470 odd for a X1900XT, ive only got a 1280x1024 monitor at the moment.

Its a mindscrambler.

Hi there

Get the X1800 XT, save your money.
Then save buy a better monitor. :D
Then sell the X1800 XT as you won't lose much money considering the OcUK bargain price and then buy a 7900 GTX when they come out mid-end March. :D

Yep. Has to be. I was going to wait until the G71 came out but i'd kick myself if i missed out at this price. I ordered a powercolour x1800xt and a Asus a8n premium. First time i've bought an ATI card and first time i've bought a non abit mobo. :) Should be interesting.
Edit:

Just what i was thinking. :D

I only bought the monitor last week - i had a 24" Dell, but really didnt like widescreen, it annoyed me when a game wasnt native, and even the ones that supported it, a lot of them still looked stretched, it was also causing me to spend a lot on latest graphics cards to play at 1920x1200 :D

Looks like its the X1800 then, set wifes face to stun :D

If it were me I'd say wait a bit and see what happens on MM. I reckon theres gonna be loadsa x1800XL/XT cards on there in the next few weeks (probably mine included, lol) and the fact is they're gonna have a lot of warranty left on them 'cos they're not that old, but they'll be cheap too because ppl here will need the money to upgrade, and supply might outstrip demand, you never know.

hmmmm this is a really nasty choice.
initially the X1800XT they have on offer seems to be the best option as I only have a 1280x1024 monitor..... but that is being replaced by a widescreen 20" when I get my next paycheck.......
Just thinking it if it is worth getting....
Or will my processer hold me back from seeing much of a difference?

what should i go for next?
is a X1800 XT (£281.94 Including VAT ) much improvement over a X1800 XL ?
or should i just wait a little and spend more on a X1900 ?

Well if you look at how much quicker the x1900 XT is over the x1800 XT here , then you have to decide if 2 extra frames at best are going to be worth the extra £120 or there abouts. :)

Spinna, stick with the XL ... TBH isn't much in it, especially if you run 1280x1024, and the XL should clock to at least near X1800XT speeds, possibly a bit over.

Agreed. :)

Well i suppose they have done what they wanted to do, get back on top, even if they have limped over the line, i can't see Nv losing any sleep over that, G71 should have no trouble taking the crown back, and without breaking a sweat, never mind Nv you'll be back on the top in a month or so. :(
