Still minus a car but yesterday I was given the keys to a 2006 new shape 330d coupe. I absolutely love it. With todays roads a petrol engine which requires high revs to get the most out of it is not possible with speed limits etc 2nd gear in mine sees just over 60 I think. This 330d auto (It has to be an auto 0.1 sec slower than the manual equil) is an absolute dream to use. It has 6 speed with triptronic but this is not needed. Leave it in drive or sport and this thing really shifts even more quicker I think than my 330 petrol sport auto. From the lights if you floor this thing no wheel spin in 2nd, then as it changes to 3rd it slips just a fraction and then just propels the car to silly speeds very very quickly. I have this car for at least 2 weeks and am seriously contemplating asking BMW to watch out for a diesel instead of a petrol to replace mine.

I am dead against diesels and hated the 2 litre saloon I have been driving, but a 3 litre auto box combo has really taken me by supprise at how good it is. I don't think I could justify the expense of a new shape coupe despite being absolutely stunning to look at and sit in. So the E46 would be on my list. Even though I do not do much milleage filling the tank today and seeing 500miles until the next fill up also makes it appealing as well as the 45mpg on the motorway today.

What do you think yeh or neh?

A few pics of the loaner would love one of these. This has a few marks etc which would be gutting if it was mine with 3k on the clock.

If I had the £££'s, a 330d would be at the top of my list. Great balance between practicality and performance. :)

The 205 TD will just have to do for now. :/

lovely interior, something I never thought i'd be saying about a new model BM, but without the huge uglyass screen in the middle of the dash, its actually pretty nice.

My brother in law has the 330d E46 with the autobox. IMO it is a great car, pulls very very well, but I personally would have a manual. The auto is great, but uninvolving.

In E46 form the 330i is the better car. The 330d you have though, is different - it's considerably more powerful than the 330d in the E46.

Why not just get a CLK 350, much smoother ride and a lot more grunt!

Bloody BMW fanboys, grow some penis'! :o

a word to the wise, you are in a forum full of devout BMW fans/drivers...and Fox

:p

although that bmw in the op doesnt look 1/2 bad, bar that seatbelt thing, it looks flimsy, and cheap

I'm pretty sure mercedes invented those seatbelt 'presenters', seems like a useful thing to have.

Oh and just to make things a little more fun, i'll throw in some numbers

I'll substitute 'grunt' for torque here. The 350CLK has 258lbft, 330d boasts 369lbft. This helps propel the beemer to 60mph in 6.0s versus the mercs 6.2s, despite the mercs 40bhp advantage. I guess that makes the beemer the one with 'a lot more grunt'. Oh and smooth ride is for old men, 3 series is not a luxury car.
