Hey all,

My only issue is that I do not own a HD TV, nor have the cash to buy one + PS3, now I have a decent monitor which I have my 360 hooked upto, and I note that you can get HDMI to DVI cables for the PS3.

My only question with this is, how would I set up sound to go through the monitor, as it requires a seperate PC audio in connection to be pluged into it, like I have with my 360.

Thanks,
Jcb33.

You can use the Yellow/Red/White composite lead you get with the PS3 and a phono to 3.5mm adaptor which you can then plug into your line in on the PC sound card (I assume that's what you are doing with the 360?)

The PS3 allows you to set the audio and video outputs independently in the system menu.

It's been a long time since anyone mentioned HDMI > DVI on the PS3. I can't remember if this actually works or not? What about the HDCP aspect? Will it only run at SD resolutions?

HDMI > DVI works perfectly but you have to make sure your monitor supports HDCP. As Nismo stated above, you can use composite cables for audio which can then plug into the PC/a stereo/whatever

I'm pretty sure you can still buy the HD Fury dongles which complete the HDCP handshake if your monitor isnt HDCP compliant.

True, these are for VGA cables last time i checked, however they cost a fortune (best part of £100) so i wouldn't recommend them unless you've no other choice.

You'll have to make sure it's DVI-I or D as well. HDMI to DVI-A will not work. From 2006 onwards I think the majority of DVI screens were digital though.

I have a Viewsonic VA2012W, 20" about 3 years old now...

That doesn't support hdcp from my admittedly quick research. So hdmi to dvi won't work. One of the most annoying things about the ps3 is its lack of vga compatibility. Oh for the day when wireless hdmi or similar takes over and everything just works.
