Not an exciting topic i know but i have been neglecting my console playing for the past few years. :o

Gone down the usual Mega Drive, N64 and Xbox route and i really want to get myself something for University.

I've done a bit of research into the different types of Xbox consoles and i really love the appearance and the extra features that come with the Elite...
So anything to look out for? Worth the extra in your own honest opinion? Anyone got one? Any new Elite models coming out next year? :)

Oh and i will get 10% off as i'll buy it from the store where i work.

Try and get the "better" models, they "should" or are rumoured to be more realiable if you care about that sort of thing

e.g Jasper, and falcon's (not model names like elite, pro etc, but how they are manufactured)

To be honest, just go buy the elite, it's covered for 3 years under warranty

You should be asking for game recommendations, loads of cheap gems out there now

It is also black, instead of white :D

imo the black looks miles better. But then only because it goes with my setup.
But the larger HDD is deffo worth the extra buck.

Thanks da_mic_1530...best way to find out which consoles have the better model names thingy like Jasper?

Tombo, i thought there were also a few extra features/connections that come with it? :)

If you intend to play it a lot go for the Elite. The 120GB is well worth it.

The only difference between the pro and elite is double the HD space and a black colour. You may get a £3 HDMI cable as well but that's it, definitely not worth it.

If you really want the 120GB get the pro and sell the 60GB HDD to buy a 120GB, it works out a nice amount cheaper than paying a rip off price for the elite.

al 360's are now HDMI

The only advantage I can see about having an elite is that you can install games to the harddrive (NOTE YOU MUST HAVE THE GAME IN THE DRIVE THOUGH) therefore allowing quieter fan noise. So other than that IMO there's no point to the elite, it's why I never upgraded

That said, there's little price difference now, protect yourself with the large HD and get the elite

- After reading Kree's post there appears to be a difference in price, ignore me then :D

As for identifing the jaspers, there's a thread on here somewhere, personally I've not looked into it, but I'm sure OCUK and google will help

Fair point...surely that invalidates the warranty? Question about Xbox Live, what else can you download besides game content? :)

Doesn't affect your warranty at all, I'm not sure why you think it would tbh

People make a big deal about copying games to HD but there are quite a few games that you should never do this on (Halo 3 and GTAIV immediately spring to mind) and I have no idea why you would need more than 5 games saved at once, just for 5% quicker loading in CoD4 etc.

I use my HDD for:

Patches
Expansion packs (new maps etc)
Full games (SFII Turbo HD, Halo 2, Banjo Kazooie etc) from the arcade store
Arcade games (like pacman, geometry wars etc

The 120GB makes sense in America where the movie and TV DL service doesn't suck ass but there is no point at all in Europe, just stream all media from your PC using WMP file sharing.

Well presuming you buy a legit HDD and not a dodgy ebayed one ;)

If you got the cash to get an Elite you might as well tbh. Theres not that much in it between buying the pro and elite.

Having said that i upgraded from a 20gb to a elite so it was a big jump for me and with selling on my 20gb one it only cost me about 40quid to get the elite so :D

Kreee, for a lot of people its not the cutting down of loading times thats nice about the installing to hard drive option. Its the reduced amount of noise and less wear on the DVD drive (the one that bothers me the most as thats the only thing I have had trouble with on an xbox).

I thought you meant literally opening up the Xbox 360, sorry. :o

Um, how come you shouldn't copy some games to the HD like Halo 3 and GTAIV?

Those games normally create a cache on the harddrive and then data is streamed from both the HDD and disk drive at the same time. Copying the games to the HDD in this case actually reduces the overall data rate achieved and causes things like texture popin and slower loading times.

They are an exception to the rule though, most games are much better on the harddrive.

Oh and, you won't regret getting a console, this 'generation' with its very much integrated online experience has brought it well in line with PC gaming imo.

I recently changed from a Premium to an Elite simply because the colour suited by setup more and I wanted the extra HDD space for the NXE update.

As others have said the only difference is the colour, double hdd size and a HDMI cable.

But if you want it to match your setup then I think this is a good enough excuse to treat yourself :p

Plus the extra adaptor if you want to connect your 360 to your surround sound via optical cable but still want to use the hdmi cable.

Mmm, interesting...is there some sort of guide/list i could follow so i know which games to copy to the HD? :)

I was onboard for XBConnect for the first Xbox but not Live...oh and 16 player Halo 1 and 2.

Deffo get the elite if you dont mind spending the extra cash! My old 20GB xbox 360 looked out of place on my desk. I just found a pic of my white 20GB xbox 360, so you can compare!

Bare in mind the pics are about 18 months apart I think.
