Personally your 2500k is still a good cpu and would wait until the next range of Intels cpu's launch which should be shorty.

Also try overclocking your current cpu.

As above, intels skylake cpu's on the new Z107 platform launch in a few months time to replace Z97. May be worth holding out.

Not kept up with CPU's, but I assume Intel's next CPU will be the Skylake? So about 2 months away?

thanks setter :p

I did originally have it overclocked, but I think my mobo is dodgy as it consistently had issues starting up stating the overclock had failed, hell even now it gives the same issue (forcing me to go into bios/exit bios to be able to start up) and it's on stock :p

Yep, skylake will be the first mainstream Intel setup to make use of ddr4. Expected to be a 30% performance increase over sandybridge.

DDR4 will be expensive on release though, especially 8GB/16GB RAM.

As for monitor, I have 3x 22" BenQ's and don't really have much need to replace them :P

DDR4 has been out for quite a while now. The prices have come down quite a bit since then.

As for 16GB modules then yes they will probably be expensive. For the average user though you will never need a 16GB module. A kit of 4 x 4GB will be enough for most.

I meant 8GB/16GB in general rather than specifically one module :P so as you say 4x4GB kits I'd still imagine would be double that of DDR3 price?

Will have a look now at DDR4 prices

What would you upgrade from the current build?

I play games like GTA, CSGO, etc.

My thoughts right now would be to upgrade the GPU, then when the new intel series comes out get a new case/mobo/cpu/heatsink/ram/psu/etc.
