Tempur mattresses?

Does anyone have one of these mattresses? I'm thinking about getting one, but I just wondered if anyone here has used one before so that I could get an honest opinion and not a sales brochure one.

i used to have one of the sample blocks of the foamy stuff - was great fun to throw at people cos its really stiff until it warms up :p

not really helpful sorry :p but i tried laying on one and i felt like i was gonna sink

Ive had 1 for the last 5 years and have to say its still the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on, it even beats the waterbed we used to have.

Iirc you can still get a 60 day trial before you buy with Tempura.

A mattress fried in a Japanese batter

or do you mean Tempur ? :p

Never tried one myself but from folks who have I hear they are very comfortable but can make you uncomfortably hot

I dunno if its the same thing , but my girlfriends grans house has a matress on one of the beds that is the most comfortable thing ever.

it just moulds to the contours of your body etc. if i had the money i would like one myself!"

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.

The beds are great, the pillows are awful. Apparently the old pillows are much softer than the newer ones. I don't even bother using the the pillows anymore, sticking to traditional ones. If you go to a John Lewis (there's one in the Trafford Centre for example), they have Tempur mattresses for you to try out and the sales people are happy to let you have a good lounge around on them before you buy :) There are three basic thickness, the thicker it is, the more you can sink into it and the more expensive. Strangely, the thinner it is, the firmer it is (to a point). I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone who has difficulty getting out of bed (nothing to do with laziness) as you do tend to sink into them especially the thicker ones but the thin to medium ones are just fine. As for being hot, I guess they probably are but that also depends on the sheets you use - try a good thick cotton and it shouldn't be as bad. Oh and they're unbelievably heavy!

I've got a memory foam mattress and couldn't go back to a regular springy one! It supports every part of your body..you feel like you're floating on air.

Whatever you do just don't go spending the £1000 upwards that Tempur charge. I got mine off of eBay and it cost £150 brand new including P&P. You'll need to do some reasearch as some of the cheaper ones on there use a much lower density (cheaper) foam, but I've tried proper Tempur matresses and mine compares favourably.

The comment about getting hot is a fair one..it certainly does makes you warmer than a regular mattress, but as long as you use a lower tog duvet then its not a problem even in the middle of summer.

I lent my matress to my nan for a week a while ago. She's suffered with swollen ankles for years but after one night of sleeping on the matress the swelling had gone!

Which Test Review

The foam layers on both samples of the Tempur mattresses tested by Which tore during their durability test.

I have the full pdf review if you'd like it (mail in trust/msn in profile). I recently bought the winner of the test, the Healthbeds MemoryFlex in King Size and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. I feel rejuvenated in the mornings, which is something I wouldn't want to give up. The best price I found on the web was £649 in King Size which I thought was a lot at first, before feeling slightly silly when I thought about how much time I spend in bed.

Don't forget pillows either, I bought some Dunlopillo Serenity Latex pillows and they're awesome for sleeping, and can do some serious damage in a spirited pillow fight! :D Makro have these in atm at £28+VAT per pair, which I was pleased with as I couldn't find them for that much EACH online.

I'd really like to hear more on this.

My mum's got a Memory foam one which my brother bought her for £1500 inc the bed itself and she's hardly useful when I ask her what it's like.

Me: Mum, I'm thinking about getting one, how is it?
Her: It's Okay
Me: o.O That it?
Her: Yes.

:o

At the price you've got it, that's entry price for spring territory! (Or so it seems!)

How does it fair off? Any links? Names of brands? Is it 'lasting'?

Really interested in getting one as I believe sleep plays a very important part in anyone's life, I'd certainly like to get more out of it if I can afford it :D

I don't remember mine being a specifc brand. I bought it just over two years ago now and it's still going strong. There's no sign of wear or tear and it comes with a removable cover which you can just bung in the washing machine.

I've just tracked down the guy I bought it off and it looks like he's still selling on eBay. Here's an example of one of his matresses: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110081077082

Looks like they're a bit more expensive than they used to be, but you can pick up a double for £205inc P&P, but that's still a great price.

Thanks very much for the replies folks, it's really appreciated ;)
I'll defo look into the ones on ebay as i was about to splash out £1800 on a tempur. If they're as good as you say then It could be a good investment :p

Al

I bought a matress topper, a bit of the foam material you put on top of your current mattress.

Before this 12/1am to 11amish was my natural sleep cycle if allowed to lie in. Now it's shifted to 12/1am to 8am.

100% recommended to try. As mentioned though, forget tempur. Just as good foam out there for half the price.

The girlfriend has one.

She has back problems (her muscles are too strong for her hacbk, so she doesn't have a curved tail bone). Although she has "back problems" it doesn't affect her too much (normal movement can do everything she wants to do, sports e.t.c) it's just that with a matress with loads of springs, it does get uncomfortable.

I quite often share her double bed, and the matress is really something special. Not too sure which one it is (think it's tempur) and think they are fantastic to sleep on, really comfortable.

So comfortable infact, I prefer to sleep in her bed, then my own springy matress one !
