Hi,

I am trying to understand the above mentioned system and the potential benefits.

My router is upstairs where the main computer is, I have a television downstairs currently connected by ethernet cable.

I want to eliminate the ethernet cable.

The tenda nova mw3 system, is its benefit such that there is no loss of speed if one uses its ethernet output connection?

Furthermore due to a lower cost, would a netgear wifi extender with ethernet output be sufficient for a smart tv on which only bbc iplayer is used and if so, is there any benefit to using a dual band device, over a single band device if the router is dual band itself?

Thanks

Does the TV have a wireless adapter or only wired?

ETA

If so, an extender or second AP will help. IIRC iPlayer expects 2mbps which should be fine (assuming internet connection here is >2mbps)

If not, find youself a wifi bridge et voila

Good Luck

If I understand correctly, you'd like to wire the TV into a device nearby rather than string a cable up/downstairs? Using a mesh system's ethernet port will let you place a unit near the TV and have less cable clutter?

If so then introducing a mesh system will achieve this, speed impacts (if any) will not be noticeable if we're just talking iPlayer. But I don't know the Tenda system although hear good things about it for a budget mesh offering.

If your existing wifi is already good then you can do the same thing for less with a device called a bridge. This bridges a wired interface of a device (your TV) to a wifi network. While they are sold standalone, many old routers can act as such a thing and so could be a lot cheaper. Last one I bought from TP-Link I think cost me £20. It has none of the disadvantages of extenders but does need decent wifi signal from your router where you want to place it. Mesh would work if you don't in all circumstances in all likelihood
