My old htpc built in 2009 is due for an update. My system Specs are
Amd 240e
Jetway nc84lf
Sony blu-ray drive
Dell Thompson mce Premium Remote
Logitech dinovo mini
4 GB ddr2
Matrix orbital.gx typhoon
Pico psu 120, 150 adaptors
Noah mini itx case
Crucial m4 64 (storage is on whs 2011 server)
Technics 900d mk2 (front speakers)
Muse 2020 (rear speakers)
Self built centre speaker with built in ta2020 amp
SoundBlaster elite pro (which also decoded dts/Dolby from virgin media box as my old technics pre/power amp is only stereo
I use it for music with a combination of winamp & eax open Al plug-in for playback, virtual dj & adobe auditions, and cubase for jamming sessions
I use mce with yammm. Media control & shark codec for videos as sound quality is not important to them so the new case will have to support the x-fi which is a full size pci card.
Now the issue, the case I want, Origen AE m10 has same issue:
1: it comes with a cheap VFD, will have to modify front to fit gx typhoon LCD
2: It only accepts low profile cards
.
2 day have case.same issues as m10
A bit of lateral thinking (lol). Mount the pci card vertically as in the old htpc nova case.
So now the upgrade will be in 2 parts. Part 1 modify case to accept full size pci card
A few hours in workshop and case is ready, although I made a mess with lid as cnc milling machine was broken I decided to drill vents by hand, BAD MISTAKE! .lid looks messy
will have to order me a new lid. This time I will use water to drill it this time
Now put together with old mobo ... oh s~~t, x-fi fits but smoothing capacitor sits too high into space for optical drive.
I removed cap and replace with a Panasonic cap fitted lying on PCB.
Since I had the soldering iron out, i decided to make my own cable for psu to reduce mess.
Other case mods include moving hard drive mount to opposite side to reduce heat from graphic card which will be part of 2 of upgrade & 2 evercool 60x10mm cans & a se fan temperature control circuit

now case is worked out i now need to find a mini itx z75 with full mini pcie to support mini pcie to pci to support x-fi
I will either use i5 2500t,Sapphire HD 6670 Single Slot Low Profile & PCCooler S85 Ultra Thin Cooler 27mm PWM Intel Socket or wait for ivy bridge ....
