Money being a little tight this year, I've settled for booking a short holiday in Tenerife. I'll be going end of April and will be staying in Los Cristianos for 7 nights. I already plan on visiting Mt Teide, but, was wondering if anyone else had suggestions on things I should do/see.

Avoid Playa de las Americas at all costs? Tbh there isn't that much to do. There's a water park aswell, never been though.

This is why we booked accomodation elsewhere. So not much to do other than lounging about? Suits me. :)

Hire a car for a couple of days and tour the island go to the north cooler and nice tapas :D

Really the costal roads on the eastern side of the island are nice (avoiding motorway)

Tenerife's a nice place for some early sunshine :D

I went to Playas las america's back when I was with my ex misses, to be honest there is nothing special there.

All we done was lie about by the pool, by the sea, went for meals and drinks and went Scuba diving (which can be a bit hit and miss being on a Volcanic Island, so unless you go out quite far on the boat as the Volcanic stuff can make the water merky).

I try not to go on these typical holidays any more as you will find its just full of English restaurants and bars and not much else to do unless you travel out a bit

To be fair, we usually don't go to these sorts of places, but we fancied somewhere a bit warmer and cheap, because money being tight. Our last trip abroad was Canada and I would much sooner go there again, if I could afford it.

I went last year and had a great time. We stayed in Costa Adeje which is a strip of upmarket hotels. We walked in to Playas Las Americas when England were playing Germany to find a bar to watch the game, it was loud and full of young people. Depends if that's your scene or not.

You must visit Siam Water Park, it's absolutely fantastic. Very clean, no queues (if you go early) and there is a shuttle bus that takes you there for free from pretty much every resort. The wave machine is brilliant and there are so great rides (some of which you can go on with up to 4 people at the same time). My girlfriend and I both loved it there.

The dolphin/whale trips are worth doing but shop around as the price can differ greatly.

You may also find it's quite windy and cloudy. Still comfortably warm though. I'd love to go back, had a great week there.

Agree 100%, the North side of the island is far nicer almost a different world from the South.

I've been to Las Americas 3 times and I love it, yet then again I like 'lazy' holidays. There's a water park called Siam Park it is fantastic, lots of different rides and is a good day out no matter what age you are. There's also a place called Jungle Park which is very good, lots of animals to be seen as well as Parrot and birds of pray shows. In the North of the Island there's another park called Loro Park which looks brilliant but I've not yet made it there. We went Go Karting a few times just out towards the airport which was great fun and good value. There was lots of day trips advertised to some of the other islands as well as water sports if your travel insurance covers you.

I went to Los Cristianos last year for a week. I'd been to there before years ago, can't remember anything about the first time there, I was probably 6 years old at the time.

What was done for each of the seven days last year:
1. General walk around and get to know the surroundings, places to eat/drink etc.
2. Hired a car and drove up to Mt. Teide (Not right to the top using the cable car) then back down the other side to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Got lost there for 30 minutes then luckily ended up back on the motorway and went back down around the motorway to Los Cristianos.
3. Took the hire car again and basically did a lap of the whole island. Drove up the western side first, stopped off in a few places like Los Gigantes and some other places I can't remember the names of, then across to Santa Cruz De Tenerife and back down the east coast to Los Cristianos.
4. Took the hire car again and took two other people we went on the holiday with up Mt. Teide again and this time went up in the cable car to near enough the top. Stunning views from up there, could see Gran Canaria quite clearly on that day.
5. Went to the Jungle Park mentioned in the post before this one.
6. Went on a boat trip to see some dolphins off the coast of Los Gigantes which was pretty good, the bus driver seemed to take forever to drive what must've been a few miles but still.
7. Pretty much spent packing and walking around letting the others do some shopping while being hassled by people who want to sell my a shiney watch even though I quite blatently already have a nice shiney watch and would therefore not need another.

Plenty of bars and restaurants around for you to try out in the evening, whether you want to try local food or eat something you would back home there's restaurants there for almost everything. I spent most of the evenings in English and Irish bars but that's because I'm pretty boring :p

There's also a Medievil show in a castle in San Miguel or somewhere around there which you can take a bus to. It's only on a Thursday and Saturday evening though so if you want to go to it you'll have to plan when to go to that in advance. More suited to families though, but you do get food and drink while you watch the show.

If you can sit on a beach all day basically throwing away the money you spent getting there in the first place, which I can't, then you can fill your time nicely.

Get yourself an XXL t-shirt with 'No I dont want to buy any of your knocked off gear', as you'll inevitably be harassed by Tenerifes very own rasta del boy squadron at some stage. Drove me barmy when we went a few years ago.

I have been to Siam pack as well, did you have the balls to go on the the biggest one? I went on everything else though.

Apart from the whopping great volcano that is El Teide and the surrounding national parks, there isn't an awful lot to do unless you like sitting on the beach, getting banjaxed or going to water parks.

That made me laugh. :)

I lost count on the number of times I was offered fake watches or sunglasses. Not to mention jewellery and the other bits of crap - they didn't even stop this while in restaurants either. Got a little tired of it after a while.
