WTF! help

How long before a landlord has to give you your deposit back?
My and my heavily pregnant GF left the propert over a month ago, it was inspected by a 3pty company who said "it was left in a clean and tennentable state" but the estate agent keep saying the landlady is going through severe personal problems that they wouldnt wish on anybody.

Thats all well and good but what has that got to do with me and my partner and OUR money?

we ring them (YourMove) every second day, we get the same response.

we are waiting for the landlady...

Its been well over a month now and we really feel frustrated...

Normally if its done through an estate agent, then its the agent that keeps the deposit. That is what the case was when my brother rented his house out anyway.

Use the dps website assuming this is who your funds were held by and you need the two pin numbers you would have been given. The money should then be returned to You in five working days. If you didn't use the dps then you need to nag your letting agent or landlady.

Was the deposit left with the landlady or with a 3rd party - presuming the former which is why it is usually better to have the deposit held under one of the schemes available. What does the tenancy agreement say? It's a shame a bad event has fallen on her but if the roles were reversed she'd screw you in a moment. If the agreement says 30 days then hold them to it.

If your deposit isn't held in a DPS scheme (which is easy to find out), threaten to sue them for not doing so if your deposit is not returned in full within 7 days.

You don't need to sue, you automatically get 3 times your deposit.
