I like the idea to move all our remote users on to terminal services, as our VPN is dodgy from time to time. Plus I would gain data backup by moving each of these users back onto our servers rather than local files/settings.

Thoughts?

Not sure if I am missing your point, but VPN's and Terminal Services are very different!

VPN is a private network setup through the internet. Terminal Services is a way of providing applications or desktops through a network.

Can you explain more?

Different yes but would be used in the same way.

At the moment we have remote users with applications installed on laptops using the VPN they connect to the network for data files. Their outlook is through POP3 so is downloaded to their laptop.

Terminal Services would take away the software setup on their laptop and would enable me to have their outlook on the exchange server?

I imagine the reason why your having problems is because you suffering high traffic utilisation over the VPN.

If it were me i would keep the VPN in place configure terminal services on the host server and install the necessary applications. Also bringing email to the exchange server would simplify things also.

Then configure the client machines as thin clients with terminal service clients installed.

You will then have both the benefit of security and low bandwidth utilisation over the VPN.

CuriosityX seems to have spelt it out correctly, however you are aware you may need a Terminal Service CAL license for each machine connecting?
