Terrible coil whine

One of my 280X's has some really bad coil whine, namely the VTX3D card. Here is a recording of it:

Any ideas on how to make it a bit quieter? I know some ppl will say to just suck it up, but it really is quite loud.

It has been suggested before that running in a card by running something like unigine benchmark for a few hours can reduce whine. Also using v-sync where applicable. Must admit it never did much for me but was suggested when I posted about it. I have seen mention of putting glue on certain bits but I wouldn't dare.

I had 2 noisy R9 280s before (in succession) by Powercolor. Returned it in the end and snapped up an XFX R9 280X and I'm rather pleased I have. No annoying noises from that card.

cant really hear any coil wine. Have you made sure that in the CCC that the fan speed is not at 100% as it is very loud.

I've got the exact same problem with my 7970 and OCZ ZX 1250w PSU. It's the most irritating thing in the world.

Count yourself lucky if that's all you're getting, which is zilch from what I can hear. All I hear is the fans.

The wind bluster from your fans is actually way louder, maybe a furry mic boom could help ? LOL

It's quite loud, the recording doesn't really pick it up that well. It's loud enough that i can at times hear it over my headphones. When playing games it's pitch seems to vary quite a lot.

Never seemed to be a problem with my 290X's although they do whine on the credits of Unigine Valley, but I think most cards do.

OP. Just listened to your whine on better speakers.

If that's as bad as it gets you need to grab a beer and be thankfull. My TI trebbles that under massive FPS.

That's pretty much what it sounds like. My phones mic is just crap.

Thats easy muffled with game sound....
