Terrible FPS

Hey, wondered if anyone can help.

I recently bought and refunded Ghost Recon Breakpoint because it ran really badly. I was seeing FPS in the single and low double digits, regardless of the settings used. Today, I fired up GTAV: Enhanced Edition, having previously only played for about an hour. I thought i'd try and get into it. I'm getting the same issue with this game. Previously running on High/Very High settings. I dropped the settings to the Minimum preset, and I'm getting terrible FPS. Mouse movement in the menu is also jumping around.

Only changes made recently are:
1. Latest AMD drivers
2. Using HDR mode in Windows

I have not installed anything new. And only items I ever have running in background are Fan Control and my AV. Those haven't changed.

GPU is undervolted as always. Running -5% power limit (used to be -10%) and about -25mV on the core.

Here is a picture of the overlay when running GTAV on minimum. I noticed in the overlay that my GPU utilisation is none existent and power draw is usually around 250W but is now like 76W. Should I try DDU and reinstall of the GPU driver?

Cheers. :(

What card is it? I scanned your post and couldn't see it. What resolution are you playing at as well? (I have sigs turned off}
Ah no worries, yeah it is all in sig.

6900XT at 4K.

With regards to Ghost Recon Breakpoint I even dropped the resolution to 1440P and used RSR to upscale back to 4K. There was no FPS improvement. :(

You might want to check the percentages for min/max?
I've set it back to High Performance, ran the GPU driver install again (repair) and left my GPU at default (no undervolt). Still runs really bad.

GPU power draw is just 100W and utilisation flicks around but is still low. Like 20-30%.

It is almost like it is stuck and can't kick on.

In your screenshot it looks like the CPU is the problem rather than the GPU, but something like hwinfo would be more informative than the overlay.

Oh right really. Is that because of the power draw being low on it?

I think you might be right @Tetras. I went into BIOS and removed the PBO Tjmax I had set and put the CPU back to Auto, except for the -30 curve optimiser. I'm sat in windows doing nothing and CPU is 60-70ºc. I'll tear it down and check the paste situation! I know its warm outside but that is a bit crazy, and I have a fan pointed at the rig currently. Wonder if it has been throttling.

Yeah, power, voltage and utilisation. From what I'm aware Ryzen CPUs don't report very accurately to software, so not sure exactly what's going on, but if the CPU is stuck it would limit the graphics card as well.

Paste looks absolutely fine, although...you'll need to repaste it now anyway!

Have you tried running a non GPU task to see if the CPU will boost to max?

Maybe run the OCCT benchmark/stress test.

Thanks. So the plot thickens. Cleaned CPU. Repasted. 95°c. Hmm must not be mounted properly. Took it off, nope, paste had transferred just fine. So I cleaned CPU again, repasted, 80°c. Ok someone is pulling my leg now. Lol.

Took the water cooler out completely, checked fluid level, full as a gun. Some small air bubbles but very good. Refitted, pasted again, 95°c.

This was in the bios and I reset the bios just in case.

So to save my sanity I'm off to local shop tomorrow to buy a middle of the road air cooler to rule out if something has gone wrong with the AIO.

Can AIO's go bad? (It is knocking on 5 year old)

Which AiO is it? They can develop problems.

Usually it's a pump failure or water depletion, but there have been rare instances of gunk building up inside of a radiator and restricting flow. There was one particular model that was infamous for it, I remember a couple of the tech channels cutting the things in half to show how bad it got.

Cheers, interesting. So it is a be quiet silent loop 2 360. I was thinking along the lines of some sort of obstruction too.

Does it have a drainage/refill or is it entirely closed? If it does I'd drain the liquid and see what comes out, a quick google of the Silent Loop 2 series shows a few people having issues after a few years relating to crap building up.

Thanks. It does yeah and I just checked how full it was. Never thought of draining it fully. If the new air cooler works I might go at it and see what is inside for fun. :)

You could next day a Thermalright PS120 or Peerless Assassin for £30 and they perform on par/better than much more expensive stuff like Noctua's D14/15 etc, the rainforest actually offers delivery before 12 for me on some stuff and I live Durham way so not far off yourself.

The shop by here has peerless assassin in stock (apparently). I'll try and get one of those then. Cheers. :)
