Hey.

I have an on going battle with sky and my ping fluctuating stupidly from 7pm onwards which im guessing is peak times. Although this is the only time i get to game.

Im thinking of moving my Broadband supplier although im not in a cable area. Although my question is, if i say go with BT who are offering the same approx speed as Sky are at the moment which is 8mb will there be a chance my ping will be better? and i will actually be able to game?

Thanks.

Hi, just checked your exchange and there is no problems, l take it you have checked everythings ok at your end, tried a new filter, etc. I was with BT and would never go back to them, if thiers a fault on your line your ping would just be the same.

Yea, Sky are telling me the lines stupidly unstable although cant help me until they escalate it :(

Its starting to drop now. Been trying to download a game from steam for 2 days... Just drops every 15 mins ish.

Have you tried connecting the router to the BT test socket?

If we believe Sky and that's it's a dodgy line issue then moving provider isn't going to help. So best pin down the reason.

It's strange that you don't have a test socket, thought they'd been round for years? Definitely checked under the panel of the master socket yeah?

This is the thing, i dont know which is the master socket.

I have 2 sockets in the living room, 1 socket in the landing, 1 in the comp room.

All look the same. The fitter didnt know either so said he would just pick a random one. Now im started to understand why he didnt fully come back.

I rang sky yest and they have put me down to 4mb. Guessing to test something? but it hasnt dropped since they have done that. I just cant live with 4mb/s. Talk about first world problems i know... But i need moarrrr

The master should have a panel to unscrew and have a socket underneath. If they're all the same then you have an issue... :(

Sky would have asked BT to put you on a Super Stable Profile of some sort. Basically syncing you slower with the exchange but with less noise.

I'd have to guess that the socket in the landing is the master socket (but since it looks like the installation was done before the larger master socket was used, you should look for a small box possibly near the front door where the line from the outside comes in and is connected to the other sockets which if there is one might be why there are problems (I'm pretty much taking a stab in the dark on this case) and it might be better if that setup is removed and a single line is run to one socket which should be changed for a master socket with the other extensions run from that).

Thanks guys.

I live in a apartment and i am on the top 3rd floor. I cant find any lines that run across the wall or anything. The SKY lady said that the hall way would have been the master, although its just the same. I thought SKY were meant to put a master/tester socket in once connect? or am i wrong (they did this at my old house).

How long will this take? until they figure out its a fault on the exchange or line matey?

The 2 sockets you have can you tell us if there is any markings or logos on them?
Can you also post line information from within the router.

None at all. They are all blank. Pretty pants really.

Shouldnt Sky/BT whoever they sent of changed or checked for a master?

Thanks.
