I have a nice (basic) system under my desk, its built into an antec nsk-4400b case and does everything i need it to do, and is completely silent.....however i get awful vibration through the desk its housed in, my desk is solid oak and resonates the sound horrendously.

Can anyone reccomend some sound proofing methods, isolation mats, spikes or some other way of stopping this from making such a racket??

HDD is isolated with rubber mounts and is idle most of the time, the cpu fan is silent and slow, the psu fan is solent and slow and there are no other moving componants - it simply takes what is an inaudable vibration and resonates to a deafening humm through the desk!

Cant, there isnt room on the floor as the office is shaared as a spare room and my other half uses it for her professional revision (surgeon). The desk has a hole for the computer - thats where it lives but i gotta shut it up!

hmm tight spot got any carpet lying around?? or even just modifying the feel by increasing the surface area which will reduce the pressure hmmmm or you could jus have music playing constantly lol

I've got it sitting on bubble wrap and foam at the moment and its 80% cured but an ugle solution, also the little one likes bubble wrap altho she hasnt spied this bit yet!

lol buddy feel for you haha but nice idea possibly use the foam that comes with packaging if you what i mean not the ppolystyrene although hmmmm

I solved a similar situation with some memory foam, however that was also unsightly. Given the same problem now, I would suggest you try 4 rubber squash balls.

Half a pound of sirloin steak might also do the trick, but I guess the eventual smell would be prohibitive.
