Hey guys and girls,

Basically I applied for the Tesco graduate scheme for store manager. So far my application has been successful, I passed the telephone interview and I now have an in store work sample. Are there any 'do's' and 'do nots'? From something you have experienced that is similar. I am expecting it to be pretty straight forward. After this I will have a very in depth interview and presentation which should be very interesting!!!

Thanks

I'm off to bed but I will reply in full to this tomorrow. I'm a Tesco Store manager by the way :)

A very lucrative career... But you need to be prepared to work very hard.

Im training to be a manager for another company now and im really enjoying it to be honest
i dont really have much advice to give you as i started recently but good luck with the whole thing
=D

"do not" mention in interview that half the stock in the fridges are either at or just over the "use by" date* ;)

(*it probably will be, in my recent experience :()

LOL, it's the way they mix "in date" with "out of date" that you don't realise till you get home ;)

Have to tripple check everything I buy now since about 33% of "fresh" refrigerated food has ended up in the bin as it's out of date or smelled rank when opening.

Dont have this problem with Sainsbury's so far (more expensive) or Morrisons (fresh, but quality hit and miss).

Its probably the hardest thing to do, most annoying and the most we get tanned for in a super market its one of those things that's hit and miss working on it.

When you have poor staff replenish and not rotating as well as beedy customers messing things up it gets quite hard for someone to find "everything" I suppose even more hard when there on a deadline and it needs to be done in a silly time frame :(

I work very hard. Currently hitting 60 hours a week and have no life or career prospects. Where as the scheme speaks for itself - fast track management. Did i mention I am a born leader ;)

In my own experience all you have to do is kiss the right blokes ****. In my store they use career advancement as a way to get people to work for nowt, Options Training my ****. Stick you on the training then rinse the living **** out of you, Have you staying over an hour after your finish time for no extra dough, Seriously it's just a Scam to get people to work harder/longer etc
Every person i know that goes the Management way ends up a complete **** & they age a year a month. :p
As for there wages they get a bonus linked in with Profit & staff count, This means that if somebody is off sick they won't replace him they will just get everybody to knuckle down more or stay late therefore improving there staff count side of there profit.
Trouble with this way of working is all the people that actually do the work hate it & don't give to ***** about the place & that reflects in Tesco stores.
When they offered me Options training I laughed in there face. :p

And OP, Good Luck with that a. :D + :p

You are most definitely not wrong. I considered entering Tesco on a fast track system when I left the Marines, my mate (the store manager) talked me out of it for many of those reasons.

Luckily I had other options.
