test drive unlimited annoying problem....

done a quick search and can't find what i'm about to post so sorry if i missied it.

When playing, does anyone else have a problem with invisible cars?by this i mean your motoring down a road, clear road ahead, then suddenly you smack into something? it happens more often on missions like hitchhikers or taking a car somewhere for 90k. the other thing that happens is again with the hitchhikers, you can be driving down the road and the hiker would say "i'll get out here" and end the mission even if you don't hit anything.
It's really p****ng me off and wondered if anyone else has experienced the same.

you arent allowed to cut across grass (maybe even pavements) when taking hitchhikers/prostitutes to their destination.

cars do pop up ...its a bit like gta where they just pop up out of nowhere to make up the traffic....its probably far less cpu intensive to make them just randomly pop up than keep an eye on 7834873 cars and drive them all about.

saying that they could have made the pop up distance a bit further so you dont just end up hitting one out of the blue at 200+mph

Me and my brother were playing with this on a lan a few months ago, and as it turns out the traffic stays synced with the person who is paused (for some reason :s). So when two people are near each other online and one of them pauses, the traffic will continue to move for the unpaused person, but when the paused player continues the game the traffic flies backward at stupid speeds to the locations they were at when the person paused.

Even after a car has left the screen and its memory has been reused to generate another car in the unpaused game, it still flies to its original position using the new car for the unpaused player. Thus you end up with two different players seing a different car in the same place. I'ts all quite amusing to watch

If there are other paused players online this might be why you see them suddenly appear. I'm not sure how the traffic is synced between players when you first join a session either, so that could have an effect.

The other thing we did on the lan was have person A drive behind person B while person B looked at person A's screen to drive, like driving remote control... And leading on from that had one person looking backwards and driving in front with the other looking forwards and driving behind, neither person looking at their own screen.

i hate that game, everything is wrong with it graphics, physics, sound, gameplay. Horrible

There is a dial on the screen that starts at say 40 and if you drive off road this goes down (if you hit other traffic 20 is deducted)

If that gets to zero the passenger steps out of the car.

i had about 20 left left in that bar, clear road and he still gets out. It's really annoying. been looking at the atari site forums and from the sounds of it the game has more bugs than mcdonalds. there were/are issues with nvidia 8800's cards which nvidia are sorting out. just wish the lazy turds at atari/eden would pull their finger out and release a patch to fix these problems.

yes - the last patch was delayed by... a long time... and in the end it pretty much just made things worse for most people

Strange, it doesn't affect all games, I have a 8800 card and no issues yet, also all the passengers remain seated until the end or until I mess up.

When you drive off the road, you instantly lose 8 points I believe, followed by a reasonably constant stream of 3 points/sec - that would be why it seems to go down so quickly

My numbers may be slightly off, but that is the general jist.

do you get the problem of invisible cars? driving down an empty road then suddenly hit something that you can't see?normaly happens on missions

Nope, never had that and I think I played for 12 hours or so.
