Hi guys,

Im looking to start doing some test drives for a new motor in the next few weeks, now the last few times I've taken a test drive i've had the dealer sat with me.

Is it at all possible to have test drives without a dealer, i just feel i can't be myself behind the wheel and that i'll get criticised for giving it a bit of boot.

Depends on the car and the dealer in my limited experience,

Also don't be afraid to give a car the boot and a good going over with a dealer sitting there, I've had them hanging on a couple of times. If they are really limiting (like I had with Nissan) I just walk away and don't bother.

Just don't drive like a nonce and you'll be fine. When I test drove my st I simply asked if he was alright if I gave it a bit of boot and said fine, took it nearly right up to the red line a couple of times and slowed down again for the corners. Totally safe and not taking the ****. One thing that shocked me is no dealers asked to see my license :o

From my recent experiences of test driving nearly new Z4s with a mate (he went on to buy new ), one or two places didn't ask to see a license, one place wanted both and took photocopies, and another place wanted to see both, no photocopies, and then let us take it out, by ourselves, for half the day - win!

The majority of test drives I've done have been with a salesman present (required for there insurance, according to the salesman), however I have also been to independants that have literally thrown the keys at me and told me to have fun,
I've also been on motorcycle test rides and just thrown the keys as well. but then I dont think if I was a salesman I would want to get on the back of a bike if I didnt know the rider.

in summation, swings and roundabouts , some will some wont

bullit
