Test Drove new Astra 1.6

Yeah, but the chances are it won't be exactly what you want. It probably wont have the extras/paint colour etc you were after. Although I'm sure some car companies could fit the extras for you, and I appreciate ex-demo cars are usually fully loaded anyway.

thats where compromise comes in.

When I bought my ex-demo Impreza, I was not overly keen on the colour (Crystal Grey), but was willing to take it, as it was an excelent condition car with 3.5k on the clock AND it had the full prodrive pack :D.
Now the colour has grown on me, as its not one of the more common colours. Most STis you see are blue or black.

I've bought two new cars in the last 12 months and one used car.

The two new cars I bought had virtually no waiting time, perhaps a week each. That was agonising, 3 months would just be annoying.

I spend my time researching the car before I buy it, that's the "exciting" part, after the order it's all a tad dull.

With second hand cars, I think I enjoy living without the financial burden and as well as the lack of a warranty (or lessened), thus allowing me to mod as I wish without having a niggling thought at the back of my mind that I shouldn't really be doing this.

Basically, as a tool - second hand, something rather special... new is an option as long as residuals are proven to be "decent".

You just have to look.

My brother got a ex-demo Smart ForFour from a Mercedes garage and it had exactly what he was looking for (colour, leather seats, engine size, and so on) but cost a hell of a lot less than the new price (11k versus 15K if my memory servers me correct) - it had one only a couple of thousand miles too.

This thread seems to have spiralled totally out of control :)

I appreciate everyone's input, truly I do. I'm just in the need for ideas at the minute.

I'm willing to spend about 6k of my savings, not including insurance. Due to test drive the 1.3cdti 90PS new corsa. I've driven a 1.8cdti focus, few years old, but a bit out of my price range.

I'm looking into getting a test drive on a leon.

Some suggestions of cars in my price range would be lovely, cheers :)

Spend £6k on a Focus or something. It'll do everything the new Astra will but will not result in you borrowing money to buy something which will shed the value of your loan in less than two years.

How do you feel about Skodas?

Either a Fabia or an Octavia if you wouldn't mind a larger car (but it's not a "big" car either, it's based on the Golf platform).

Very reliable, and insurance is generaly pretty good.

I think you should at least say why you want a new car vs a 5yr old one.

....Or a A8 or a Ferrari. I mean you should be able to get a mint 1980. :D
