Hi all,

about a month ago I took the face plate off of our master socket and plugged the router into the test socket... to my amazement my internet speed more than tripled! (sync speed of 6848kbps as opposed to 2240kbps) now i realised straight away that it had cut off the other extension sockets but we don't tend to use them so i ignored it.

However my parents now want to plug a phone into their bedroom socket but atm they can't because it doesnt work.

Clearly i do not want to go back to 2meg internet seeing as im quite liking it at 6 currently... is there anyway that i can get the extension sockets to work without losing my speed? :)

cheers

Ali

Look here for infomation about the BT I-Plate. This basically just disconnects the ringer wire.

For more geneneral information just Google 'ringer wire'.

Google also turns up everthing you need if you search for 'filtered faceplate'. They'll all be competitor sites, so I'm not going to link/mention them directly.

A filtered faceplate will do the same job as the I-Plate as far as isolating the ringer wire is concerned.

Buy some cordless phones?

That way you connect the main base to the test socket with the modem and then your parents can have a charger base upstairs in their bedroom?

yeh we already do this, we currently have 2 cordless phones downstairs in the house, but its quite a big house so we need to have two phones downstairs so we couldnt take one of them upstairs.

if that makes sense

best way is like others have said get a ADSL Service Specific faceplate and IDC inserter to reattach all your telephone extensions
