Hey, I just bought a second hand motherboard from an auction site, it arrived in the original box, in the anti-static bag, well packaged and looked unused, no foamy capacitors or anything. :P

Thing is, I want to test it's not knackered before I buy a CPU for it, as I'll probably be getting a new CPU.

I already connected up the mother board 20 pin and 4 pin connectors, then I connected a power switch and a 3 pin fan, and it spins when I boot it up.

Any other tests I can run? I have everything but the CPU and cooler now, just want to make sure it doesn't fry the CPU really!

This has come about because a guy I know bought a second hand motherboard from the same auction site, and it fried a brand new E8400 on the first boot. :S

From my reckoning, the fan works, therefore it's recieving power properly, and the power switch works. Any other tests I can run?

You could find a gullable friend to loan you a compatible CPU? Or, to be so dumb as to buy a 2nd hand board from an auction site.. That is the risk you will have to take.. Just get a CPU for it if it fries it send it back saying the CPU faulty then flog the board to another sucker.

If the board looks new then very much doubt it will be faulty.

Aye hopefully it should be fine, i don't know anyone with an old socket 775 CPU they don't like though. :P
