testing before mounting eerything into case (new build)

Hope this is not a silly question. I would like to hear your opinion if it is advisable to test a new system initially outside the case (placing PSU, mobo+viseo card on a desk). Or are you assemble everyting direct into the case and than test. ?

On another note, is it better to connect the case fans directly to a modular PSU or to the mother board (All four fans of a HAL 932 case are unregulated). ?

Unfortunatly, the HAF 932 comes with 4 fans which have no speed control (2 pins). Gigabyte mobo has only 2 connectors, I have to connect two directly to the PSU.
