Testing card without PC?

Howdy all,

I recently sold all the components to my PC on a well know auction site, separately, but at the same time.

Well I tested all these components before I listed them, and I gave them all a good test the day before I dispatched them to the winning bidder.

Well all have been fine apart from one, the guy that bought my old Sapphire ATI 4870 X2 claims he has tested it on 2 motherboards and 2 PSUs and says it don't work. I've emailed him to ask what wattage the PSU's where to make sure he hasn't underpowered it and awaiting a response to that.

I know it worked when I sent it off obviously, but he wants to return it, but as I have now sold all my PC parts I have no means of testing the card when it gets back. I have an 27" iMac now, and I know NO ONE who has a PC with a spec that would be able to run that card to test it with.

Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knows or a method on how I can test the card without a PC to test it in?

Thanks

you can't you can only test it with a pc.

only thing i can suggest is if you know a trusted forum member then get the buyer to mail it to them special delivery and get them to test it for you.

also whats his feedback like, does he seem clued up about pc's

here hoping he's not shoving this in a dell with a q-tec power supply lol

Caveat Emptor (Buyer beware).

2nd hand PC parts at Auction always have a risk element and I know you are being helpful in assisting the buyer. You do not know how the card has been treated since it has been in his possession.
I personally do not accept returms and make that clear. I tend to buy with the same attitude, if new and described as such I will always request a refund if DOA. If used in working condition my faeces detector is on full strength and I only buy at a very reasonable margin to me and don't return duffers.
Having said all that you are being helpful and depending on your ad, may have said he can return it. There is no way to test a graphics card without a working barebones PC. Ask him for pictures and specs of the machines, drivers used, bios version, PSU type and connectors.
You should have taken dated screenshots and pictures of the card working, If the card was cheap and you are sure of your position, resist this return without proof of testing.

sorry can't be more helpful

Ok fellas thanks for the replies.

I'll await what the buyer says with regards to his spec to see if I can see why it might not be working, if nothing comes of that I'll accept the return and refund him and I'll have to find a way of testing it.

I might even sell it on marketplace here, and detail the above and hope an honest ocuker will buy the card and tell me if it really does work or not, and of course if it doesn't work I'll give a full refund and I will know it don't work then.

If you want a report on it with supporting benchmark and pictures, several OCUKers would probably assist, I would but am a bit far away. You could do this between receiving the card back and issuing a refund.

Yeah, I might ask on the general forum for someone in my neck of the woods willing for me to pop round and test the card. Although, there is a PC parts store (local) down the end of my road (kinda) so I might pop in there with it. They specialise in laptops, but I'm sure they will have a suitable PC in there somewhere that I can test it on.

I also had a thought, and annoyed I never took my serial numbers down, that he could have an identical faulty card, he has bought mine, says it don't work, and intends on sending his faulty one back to me hoping I'll be none the wiser. I do have the part numbers (P/N) that where on the stickers on the casing, but he might swap those over.

Oh well, I'll await his response and go from there.
