Testing my new rig - 3d mark

Hi, so ive just built my new rig,

i7 920
6gb ram
2x 4890
1tb hdd
evga x58 motherboard,


Ive only just got windows 7 installed and a few drivers, after running 3dmark 06 I got a score around 14k.

I was expecting as this is quite an old program, that I would fly through with consistently high fps, but noticed it was dropping to the low 30s high 20s at points.

Is this to be expected?

Also what is a newer benchmarking program and what sort of scores should I be looking at with my spec? Nothing is overclocked as of yet.

That seems low (almost a single card score) - is crossfire enabled and working ?

Also, give Vantage a try (im sure it works on W7)

thats stupidly low, even if only one of the cards was working.

test it with 3dmark vantage as its the newest one going and gives a more accurate reading with the newer kit.

but that does seem very low for 06 never the less.

That score is very low. Theres a guy in another thread with his single 4890 overclocked to 980 on the core and his [email protected] scoring just over 20k. Vantage as said above would be a much better test though.

I may have something set up wrong but im prety sure crossfire is enabled. This is my first proper build and first time on w7 so maybe there are some settings or something?

Does anyone have a direct link to the 4890 drivers? Im not sure they installed correctly?

Major wrong low score there. My single 8800gts with my q6600 scored 16598

So your scores are worse than just xfire not working.

Post you link to your results so we can compare where the problems are.

uber low, check if games are running slow and check drivers.

The first thing I installed was bf2, and it set the game to minimum on everything, will see how it plays on full now.

Tried vantage last night but it crashed near the end so will try again in a minute.

Can anyone give me a short checklist of everything I should do once ive installed the OS on a new build?

Ok vantage seems to crash everytime after the flag test.

I seem to be getting very low fps between 45s and low 20s, sometimes even as low as 14.

Also on the cpu test it was literally a slideshow.


Im also having problems getting aero to work

EDIT - On 06 I got 100 more points with cf disabled. Am so confused here and really just want to get everything running well

What settings are you using (this may be slightly different, as im using an x2, but should give you an idea)

Try on "stock" settings first:
"3D" Settings:

Standard Settings => Tick "Use Custom Settings"
Anti-Aliasing => Tick "Use Application Settings"
Adaptive Anti-Aliasing => Leave un ticked
Anisotropic Filtering => "Use Application Settings"
Catalyst A.I. => "Standard" (Slider to the Left)
Mipmap Detail Level => "Performance" (Slider to the Left)

If overclocking:

ATI Overdrive

Make sure you overclock each core by using the drop down menu and set the GPU and Memory clocks for each of the cores the same:

So select the top box -> Adjust your OC then apply
Select the second box -> Adjust your OC (as the top one) then apply
