Testing out Canon 24-70 f2.8 mk2 lens

Are you finding it as good as the reviews say?

I'm thinking of picking one up in a couple of weeks time now.

So far so good mate. Good build quality, fast AF and quite sharp.

Still early days though as i literally just got it yesterday.

Ask me again in a months time!

Such an epic lens, I used the mk1 on a trip to Italy recently and it was just a delight to use, I can only imagine how good the mk2 must be!
Is that the "cloudy" WB used there? looking very yellow

Nice shots and very vivid colours.
I've got the Sigma versiom which I've had for a few years but started using an awful lot lately.
Debating whether I can justify an upgrade to the Canon version.

Having tried this today (Jonney's one as it happens)..

I didn't try it for long, BUT
- focus speed - not super quick, but as quick as anything else I've tried.
- focal length - I found myself bouncing off of 70 a bit. A 24-105 2.8 would be preferred
- Aperture - 2.8 is lovely, and as a lens I was actually finding I could get away with about 1/40 and get usable shots at 70mm.
- Sharpness - Oh LORD. Looking back at the images in review it is very, very sharp...

24-105 F2.8 would be my ideal lens too - Canon you listening?!

Out of interest how does the Mk2 compare to the original? Are there significant improvements at all?
If, for example I could get a used Mk1 for half the cost of the Mk2 to replace my Sigma version would it be a good decision?
My idea would be to sell the Sigma, and possibly my Canon 17-40 to fund it. I reckon I could get most of the cost back that way.
