Hi guys

I have Sapphire non-reference 5850 which I overclocked to 900/1200MHz using MSI Afterburner. I ran MSI Komboster for about 15/20mins at those settings and that was it with no artifacts or crashing or anything like that. However I read in another forum that OCCT GPU test should be used for 1 hour to consider the overclock perfectly stable.

So guys I would like to know what programs or software I should use and for how long to consider my overclock settings stable? Many thanks for all the answers.

Did exactly the same thing yesterday on the same card at the same clocks. I had to crank up the fan to keep the temps under 70ish.

I used Furmark for stress testing. I think as long as your temps are OK and you get no blue screens then you should be ok.

komboster is based on the furmark, same as the ati tool.

it would show any instability.

you could run a game for a bit and if it doesn't crash i would call it a success.

So while running Komboster in the background I should also play a game like crysis but for how long?

My temps don't go above 65 as I set the fan profile to 70% at and above 40C

only run one at a time. kombuster will show you max temps as any large instability.

run a game to see if the ram is clocked too high. (that is if you clocked it)

there's no better stability test than using it how you normally would.

My resolution is 1024X768 lol:p. If I ran furmark/komboster stability test at 1920X1080p, would it place more stress on my card or is the furmark/komboster stability test independant of the resolutions you use ?So would it stress the card equally at lower and higher resolutions? Again many thanks for help.

In my experience furmark/ combuster are not that good tools to check the stability. Maybe top temperatures yes but for gaming crysis is the unlitmate stability check. I ran 3d mark vantage - fine heaven 2.1 - fine but its crysis who always crashes a bad overclock.

For me the only stable overclock is the one who can withstand 30 loops of crysis.
