Got to test some rails on a PSU.

Got my multimeter set to 20v, black in COM and red in voltage (not 10ADC)

Put my black probe into a black COM pin on my 24 pin atx plug which is plugged into the board.

Got to test the 3.3v/5v/12v.

Problem is:

There's quite a few 3.3/5/12 pins, so which ones do i need? -12v or +12v or +12v1?

Also, what is the best way to get the PSU at a Load state?

Help :D

Thanks,

Andy

The +12V should be all the same, near enough. +12V is the one you want, -12V doesn't do much.

Load is harder, my best guess is you get an atx extension cable and strip part of the wires, then use this between psu and motherboard. Not exactly safe. Have two patches bare, test, turn off and wrap them up in pvc tape before testing the next line.

Worried your supply is faulty?

Thinking about it a much, much better idea would be to measure from the solder points on the back of the motherboard, might be just as awkward though

Doesn't matter which way round you get the cables, if you get com and the other one backwards it'll just put a - in front of your reading.
