lets see if this works.. i havent done a build just to test this out lol, if it is a good build and better than pre-built thats like half the price then i will go along with it bit by bit, going to be forgetting it as a xmas present, she wants a laptop that can do pretty much what the desktop can do  lol, so im going to go down that route first now..

i havent added a OS or a 2nd large HDD or even a monitor to suit, i can get ot those near the time like.

What is the use of this pc mate? If your gaming you'd want a better GPU. The 430 is great for light gaming on medium settings.

You can get 8gb of RAM for a similar price.

Dead set on that case? Id save money and go for the Asgard Pro

If its not for gaming you should go the trinity route. Cheap, with great on board graphics.

it seems im taking too long with a reply or somthing lol as kept getting an expired notice.. so here goes again but even more simple and shorter..

its for the missus not me and she will only be using it for facebook(over 80% of the time) a DJ streaming site, other general browsing and some photo editing, so i want it to do all that without and fuss, so 4gb Ram is a must as a minimum(certain facebook games use a lot of memory and can be slow after awhile) and the computer last her awhile with upgrades available.. oh and to be able to play Sims 2 & 3(only disk game i know she wants).

funnily enough i was looking at a Trinity build in the 'Full systems' section, this one to be exact http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-127-OP&groupid=43&catid=2385&subcat=1444 , it be more than capable for her needs and be able to play some dedicated games, i am also looking at a lesser and much cheaper intel spec kit with option to upgrade..

oh and im not dead set on anything in that build i basket, i just want a reasonable priced build that is more than capable of the above, the case must either be a cube or better suited a tower though, but not too big due to limitations of space on desk with dedicated desktop shelf position.

How about something like this?

1 x "Nano 110i" Intel Core i3 3.10GHz Dual Core System £260

There are a few pre-builds kicking around, some with all the internals.

thanks for that, but that would suit me size wise, but that will look out of place and make the desk she recently got look empty lol..

yeah there are plenty of pre-builds and some are very nice indeed, but as this wouldnt be for any serious gaming, some seem just that bit too much.

I'm struggling a bit to understand. Can I just clarify?
Just a cheap desktop, for Internet and light gaming.
Small. No monitor or OS.
Are you ok to build it yourself?
£400 budget?

If you look at the HTPC range, there are a few with a i3, Pentium Gxxx, or AMD Trinity processors. That would be my target. Cases are usually very small, with a pico PSU, enough for the CPU and peripherals. If you look at the gaming pre-builds, then yeah, they would be a bit out of place for your needs.

You can also take some inspiration from them, and do a self build with one of the case you prefer. Will save you around £100, £150.

Maybe something like this.

HDD or SSD.

But TBH, i wouldn't begrudge the choice of a laptop. Say a i3, 14''. My mother prefers the laptop to the desktop.

You do realise that board does not support or have USB 3.0 or sata 6gbs .

who uses USB 3.0 anyway? But good call on the lack of SATA 3. It seems that many of the FM2 boards do not have it. Strange. I considered it a standard at this point.

pretty much yeah, mean i can max her biostar out at its 2gb capacity which i will do anyways and add a 2nd HDD to either add a win7 OS or just free up her 250gb which only has like 170-180 left or so giving her the ability to save motr stuff.. but other than fitting an Athlon 64, even if i could up the power, i think the 8500gt is the max he system can support as i was looking at the 8800gt, but cant see if its compatible or not..

however the computer is old(£30 for s full working system to replace broken laptop) and although her computer running her stuff better with the 1.25gb i got it to, i think with its max potential it can only go so far..

i could get her a kit from here and add certain extras for under £200, i was just thinking of something that bit more because i have an i5 and a i3 would be more than plenty enough CPU power for her..

i dont know if you ever gone on 'spicemusicradio' but its a site with a chatroom and dj's can stream live shows put on for those on the site which uses flash player and facebook takes up a lot of memory especially when playing games, so i would like her to have something more capable and just something fresh..

and yeah im okay to build it, ive taken an old dell apart and put it back together, its all pretty straight forward stuff really..

the builds you speccing for me sound really good and would make due for a few years :)..

oh and yeah annoying thing is she wants a laptop which is fine, but i was looking at decent specs for just use with facebook and general browsing as she has the desktop, but she told me(has no idea im planning to buy her some tech for xmas) she wants to do the same things on the laptop as on the desktop , so now i need to find a laptop ideally less than the cheapest build listed here, but with almost as much performance as my laptop lol, i think i will have to go used though.

thats not a bad case, i was thinking more along the lines of that dragon one though as i like the armour look, i know its for her, but dont want it too plain though ;).. but other than that i do like the kit, dual core and option of 8gb Ram was my original intentions, ive never experienced that, but she would never have to worry about slowness :p.
