Testing WiFi speed

Is there a way I can test the maximum current throughput of my WiFi without sending files from my partner’s laptop to my desktop?

My desktop and phone both handle much faster than the max speed I can upgrade to (900mbps) via WiFi6/6e.

I just want to run a program on my phone or desktop in my attic that tells me whether I’ll need extra equipment to get 900 in my attic thanks
 
Can only get 100mbps ish max up/down.

BT home hub 5
iPhone 15 pro as server by router
WiFi 6 laptop next to it too

Any clues? Thanks

You don’t need to be next to it, same room is fine and about 6-10 foot away if you can. Right next to it would be one of the worst spots.

Also scan for interference, you can get wifi scanning apps.
 
Ok thanks it’s supposed to do 1300 but I guess I’d get another router anyway

Not to one client it won't though. Admittedly, you should be getting higher speeds than you are though, I would expect to see north of 300Mbps on wireless AC. As above do a scan and see if there's other wifi networks causing interference.

On Wifi 6 I get around 550Mbps on my iPhone 14 Pro, and just over 800Mbps on my M2 Macbook Air, so it is client dependent too.

On WiFi 6 I get this with my 15 Pro, 160MHz channel.

 
when we deployed a new wireless infrastructure, I wrote an application to do exactly this, I used iperf to run various tests to give a indidcation of bandwidth used by the clients.
 
I’m not using 160Mhz as I don’t have enough devices that support it. Plus, I have absolutely no need for that kind of speed to my phone lol.
Plus you'd probably end up with co and/or adjacent channel interference undoing any of the benefit and then some.
