Testing Xbox 360 1080p on Dell 2407...

Ok, let me start this from the beginning.

My Nan, god bless her heart, recently won a 40gb PS3 at bingo :eek: and is giving it to me because she's lovely :D. Anyway, I currently have a Dell 2407WFP and I want to know whether or not my PS3 will push 1080p through my DVI connection with a HDMI/DVI convertor cable (the firmware of this monitor is currently unknown).

I tried to put my friends Xbox (via component) through this and got an 'out of range' error when trying 1080p, but i've been told the 2407 will not do 1080p through component (but 720p seems to works fine).

What I was thinking was: get a cheap xbox360 VGA cable and DVI convertor and try it like that (apparently if 1080p is going to work at all with a console it'll be through the DVI slot, but some revisions of the firmware don't like it)- my main concern was that the analogue VGA signal wasnt capable of 1080p- can anyone shed some light on it?

And no I cannot just hook up my ps3 and try it, its currently 250 miles away, I just wanna see if this monitor is capable of it, if not i'll sell it and go for one with a HDMI port which is garunteed to work.

A VGA cable for Xbox360 will get you 1080p. You'll want the official cable as it gives the best picture, connect it straight to the VGA port on your monitor.

Yep as nookonwud says. It's what I use and works perfectly. No need to mess about with the DVI convertor stuff.
 
Well i'm not bothered by the quality of the picture, this is for testing purposes only, I just want to know that it CAN do it (i.e. doesnt give me the out of range error), and to make this test applicable to the PS3 (which uses a HDMI cable with which i'll have to use a DVI convertor to plug into the monitor) surely i'll HAVE to use the VGA-DVI convertor to make sure the 1080p runs through the DVI connection?

Really? My logic was just that I won't be using the VGA port for the PS3 so to make an accurate comparison I would need to use the same interface as I DO plan to use for it (ie the DVI). Or is it the case that if I can get 1080p through the VGA then it will also work through the DVI?
 
It works, I have the same monitor and have run the PS3 and 360 on it at 1080P fine.

360 through the VGA port and PS3 through the DVI.
 
Yours will work, I don't understand what you're so worried about!

Mine is A04 and I also did the same on my old A03.
 
I hope so; just LOTS of stories about certain revisions not working with a 1080p signal from a ps3 or xbox, or not 1:1 mapping...like i said, when I tried it over component I got that 'out of range' error...
