After unplugging a USB when it crashed trying to delete a file from it the text from my computer has disappeared. I used to have the icons and then the drive/storage name ("Vista", "BD-Rom Drive", and "SharedDrive".) Anything I can do? I can't do a system restore as I have it turned off, never liked it.

may sound daft, have you restarted the pc?

I have :). Tried every different view there is as well. The only way to get drive names and icons back is changing the view to "Tiles" but I didn't have to do that before and the icons are too small for my liking :(.

yeah, i just tried all the size settings, but couldn't get rid of the text like you have.

i'm guessing it's ok in other user accounts on the machine?

btw.. to hide the 'public' folder..

delete..
%userprofile%\Links\Public.lnk

and save this as a reg file and run..

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Remove Public folder from Explorer
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{4336a54d-038b-4685-ab02-99bb52d3fb8b}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{4336a54d-038b-4685-ab02-99bb52d3fb8b}]

-^^obv, edit out those spaces that appear..

Haven't checked that, I'll check the Guest account.

Guest account shows the text, I guess something got corrupted somehow :(. CBA to transfer my firefox profile, pictures and settings over to a new the new user account. Thanks for the public folder tip, never used it!
