Text message character counter for iPhone?

Hey guys,

Since getting an iPhone and having my to drop back from unlimited texts to 500 I'm finding it quite difficult to cut back. After looking on the iPhone itself with it's messenger like interface, it doesn't appear to show u a counter of how many characters have been used, which means I have no way of knowing whether the message I'm sending is one mssage, or has crept into 2 texts. Now I have only the 500 texts, this is something that would really help! is there anyway to have a counter that would show me this info?x

Yeah it does tell you on your online bill, but that's only afterwards, I'm looking at a preventative measure, but it obviously appears there isn't one...looks like I'm gonna have to start counting the characters myself as I'm sending them! Just so far from ideal....

Sorry guys a lot of you seem to have misunderstood

I know I can find out how many texts I have sent from my monthly allowance, that's not the problem

the problem is, previously having unlimitd texts I had need worry whether the texts I was sending were 1 text long, or 15 minutes long, now however being limited by 500 what I wanted was a counter so that as I was typing a text it told me whether the text I was gonna send had gone over the 160 characters and was gonna cost another text...cause if I was say 2 characters over I'd drop in some slang and save myself the extra text!

Also, I would pay for the unlimited text option with o2 happily, but they don't have that option for this iPhone, which is so annoying!

Waso, I would go for the unlimited text bundle if u could bit you can't get it on o2 any longer... I had it before which is where this problem has come fro

You might wanna give o2 a call and see if you do still have it, cause if not and ur sending 4500 texts, ur in for a nasty shock at the end of the month

although if you are still getting it, is it just the new iphone3gs that isn't offering the service? And all the old models will still get it?

Why would I want that app?? Does that app tell me as I
typing a text how many characters I've currently used on that one message, and whether the text I typing has gone over the first text and will now have to send two?

How is this so hard for some people to grasp?

Well I appreciate the pointing towards the app, but as I've stated twice previously in the thread, I don't need to know how many texts I have left in the month, or how many I've used, just needed a counter really...just doesn't seem to exist

sorry, didn't mean to get irrate, just fed up as it seems I'm storming through my 500 text allowance...sorry

does anyone know what the deal is with the unlimited texting now? Have o2 stopped it altogether, or just on the iPhone, or just on the iPhone 3gs

How do you get this? I phoned up and asked and they claimed they do not do it anymore. I've sending sometimes over twice my 500 limit my bills are getting rather big, you are right on the iPhone texting is soo easy one txt message may actually be the length of three.

I'm doing the same I think, this month I'm going to go double over I think, especially when u are used to having it unlited and changing seems to be a tough switch

I don't know if it helps you at all, but they did tell me about a friend and fmily bolt on you can get that costs 7.50 and I think you get to add 10 numbers and you get unlimited texts to them, however they have to be on o2 which was no good for me as everyone seems to be on othr networks
