I've been trying to get a little creative today and decided that my standard text message alert tone, a single beep, wasnt perhaps up to scratch. I've been thinking of a lot of clever things to use instead but draw a blank on how to find them! The main one I am having problems getting right is the sound of a carrier pigeon. The only pigeon sounds I can find online are their irritating songs, but I just want their hoot or something. Hard to explain. Like the Settlers 2 message alert sound!
Also I heard someones message tone once as the sound of a buzzing fly, which I thought was cool.

If you have Settlers 2, couldn't you just extract the audio from the files?

I did a similar thing once; my text message tone is now GLaDOS going 'wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' (I love Portal. Hard.)

I use the Metal Gear Solid Alert as my text tone and the Metal Gear codec beep as my ringtone :p

Can't help you with the pigeons, sadly.

My phone is provided through my employer, which is nice as I don't have to pay for any calls I make, but sadly they chose the phone (a Nokia Brick) and changing the ringtones is frowned upon. As such, I'm stuck with the default stuff, so I went for the **** a doodle doo sound :(

A colleague, who doesn't have a work phone so is free to use whatever she wants, has the Worms sound effect... "Incoming..... whooooosh...... hehehehe" which I quite like.

Any old computer games you have fond memories of? The MIDI files are often pretty good for text messages and even ringtones...

I have the Super Mario "1-Up" noise for my texts.
If anyone remembers Super Mario 1 on the NES, my ringtone is the background music from the underground sections, though I remember it most from the underground section in the first level - as I was pretty rubbish...

Blokey has a noise from Zelda as his text chime - something to do with opening a chest, I think.

Yup, geeky - but at least when I hear it go, I know it's a message for me...

I had the MGS codec beep for years. Subtle enough that people didn't think me sad, but instantly recognisable for any fans. :)

However... iPhone = fail in the text alert department.

Now i have the ringtone from Crank and my text tone is just a standard beepy thing

Used to use the Peep Show scene transition sound as my text alert before I got an iPhone, now its just the tri-tone thing. Would love to have the Peep Show one again though!

Used to have Codec and Alert from MGS but after I sent it to all my friends it caused havoc when one of us got a call/text so on my new phone I have ringtone as Fresh Prince of Bel Air and message as stock.

I have a sound effect from Alien Breed as my text alert. It's the sound that plays when you log onto the computer system.

Would love to have some recorded by the woman that did the voice work on Alien Breed, something along the lines of Incoming Transmission in that husky sexy voice would be great...lol
