I just realised after playing with the settings on my new screen that 16:9 has a slight advantage over 16:10, in 16:9 you get more world view on *** sides and minimal loss on the vertical view, check it out:

wouldn't that just depend on your screen size? Not sure 16:9 size is better on a 16:10 display and vice versa. Ideally you should adjust res to display's native format.

Indeed but on a 24" you just get some thin letterbox borders on the top and bottom, the screen res is still huge enough to do everything you would on 16:10 except you get a bit more viewspace in the game world at 16:9 :D

So actually you can see more on 16:10 it's just the default FOV for 16:9 is different to that of 16:10.

It depends on your screen or graphics card. If either supports 1:1 pixel mapping then you'll just get black bars at the top and bottom which is okay imo. Otherwise you'll have to deal with a slightly vertically stretched picture, which not good imo.

16:9? Try 15:4!

And yes, before anyone asks...single frustum render does distort the edges, but they're in your peripheral vision so it doesn't really matter.
