OK, so basically my missus wants a PC so she can play Tf2 when she's not at mine. After treating her this Xmas I'm limited to about £150 but preferably less.
I already have a few components lying about though:

A decent laser mouse.
19" monitor/TV so it has acceptable speakers.
8800GT 512
Asus p5n-e sli mobo (socket 775).
AC freezer pro 7
An XP license
Assorted case fans

So basically I need:

Keyboard
RAM - 2GB
Case
PSU
CPU - I was thinking a low end 1.6/1.8 Core2duo OC'd to about 2.4
HDD - about 150GB
Wifi PCI card or USB adapter
Optical drive

I know this is possible for this price and I already have a list of what I could get but I was just interested to see how others would do it differently.

It only needs to be powerful enough to play Tf2 and maybe be enough to run COD 4 and L4D (which a friend of mine runs on a 2.4 athlon 64 and a 7600gt).

Cheers.

Hmm contraversial. ive had a look and you will be on the cheapest of kit there, imo its not worth it, dont go for what you can afford look at what would best suit the instances.

The conclusion i came to when having a look this morning, you'll have to upgrade your budget to about 200 to be honest mate, even then its pushing it :)

as already been mentioned budget needs to be upped really, even getting some of it 2nd wont make much difference.

plus u really dont want to put a rig together for the missus that doesnt run well, can you really put up with the ear ache of "but its running slowwwww..." i think not :D

Even if you could find *B-Grade* equipment you would be struggling.

As said above cheap and women never go together. a slow pc isnt something that comutes in a womans brain. women are so advanced apparently

Yeah, I just looked at what I had and It seems a bit spartan (hideous case and value PSU along with second hand 1.8ghz core 2 duo which has probably been OC'd to hell and back). I think I'll get her to put a fair chunk towards it to, or just make her buy the processor or something.
