Its more likely to be a problem with your p.c than the game itself.
Has it done this since installing it, or just recently?
This seems to indeed be a problem in the last week or few days etc... I have been playing since beta release no problems whatsoever on my mediocre laptop- but last night, I couldnt get into a game that was playable for more than 30 seconds or so.
Im not overly worried, a lot of online games seem to have 'off -days' on servers etc![]()
if your running vista,
in steam right click->create desktop shortcut
then right click on the shortcut -> compatability tab -> run as administrator
I had exactly the same problem until i did the above
I don't have a single problem with my TF2! Well happy with it

Any of you guys still having problems with this game? Apparently it doesn't play nice with a lot of Speedtouch routers (this includes the the BT Home Hub, for everyone who's using it) and there's a very good fix I found when browsing the Steam FAQs. Let me know if you want me to post the fix and I will, but I can't right now as I have to be up pretty early tomorrow (today, in fact).
Okay. The fix is the same for both Vista and XP users, except the former must first carry out an extra stage.
Vista Users
Open the Command Prompt and type:
Press Return.
Type:
Press Return.
This will install a Telnet application which is optional in Vista, but it's already present on XP.
Vista and XP Users
From here on the instructions are the same for both operating systems.
Open the Command Prompt and type:
You will then be prompted to login to the modem with a username and password. The default is one of the following:
The second option worked for me.
Press Return after typing the username and again after the password.
Once you've logged in, you will be presented with the command line of your modem.
Type:
Press Return.
This will list connection bindings.
Look for a line that contains GAME and some port numbers. For example: GAME(UDP) udp 27010-27011
Type:
Press Return.
The port numbers in this command must match the numbers that are listed in your GAME port listing, similar to the example above.
And now you're done!
Also, thanks go to netripper for providing this solution.
