TF2 Crashing and Looping Sounds Problem?

Hi guys,

Recently my TF2 has been really playing up, I cannot go through a complete game without it crashing on me. Sometimes it will crash and lead to a Blue Screen of Death and sometimes it will crash, go back to the desktop and loop the last sound?!?

I have searched everywhere and tryed many things to sort out such as updating drivers, quicktime and messing with in-game settings but nothing works.
Also the error I receive when the BSOD appears says something about the secondary processor not in time, something like that anyway.

Has anyone had these problems and if so is there any help as it would be highly appreciated!

Thankyou,
Tom

I notice from your sig that you have an ASUS sound card.
The looping sound problem is a common fault with these cards when applications/games crash and send you to the desktop.
Go into the settings for it and disable the "GX" (fake EAX) setting.

This was happening to me all the time until I made this ^^ change.

This wont fix the crashing, just the looping sound.

Does this happen for any other games you play or just TF2?

No it does not happen on any other games, plus it has only been recently that TF2 crashes every 15mins.
Both my CPU and GPU are stable and I have only recently updated my bios!?!

I have searched this on Google and have found many others that have the same problem. Also I have noticed significant frame rate drops from 300FPS all the way down to 70FPS when there is chaos in the environment which has only started recently and should not happen on a 7950 and i5.

Ah thankyou, I have to restart everytime due to the looping!

I can almost guarantee the sound looping issue is the result of your Asus sound card.

Their drivers are appalling, I ditched my D2X for the same reason, whenever I quit EVE Online without first disabling the in game sound I would get a constant repeating thumping sound until I either disabled the card or restarted my computer. There are a few fixes but none of them are perfect.

As for the crashing, may be soundcard related as well but who knows.

Another question guys (a little bump I know), any of you that have decent builds and/or 7950's, when playing TF2 does your framerate drop down to 70-80fps in hectic open combat?
Just asking as it seems quite strange for a PC fully capable of hitting very high fps getting so low?
