I'm not sure if this is just on one server or every server.
I get disconnected from the server, but without doing anything it automatically reconnects straight away. Now this is annoying enough when your in the middle of an uber and your destroying everything in sight, but more often than not I cannot rejoin the team I was on.

Any help much appreciated

It's happened more than many times to me in the past few days, ever sinced they tweaked the soldier and demoman ammo. Not just one server, and totally random. Sometimes I'll be able to play for hours and no DC.

I'm on BT Broadband.

If you use a Speedtouch modem ( from BT or whatever ISP ) there is a well known issue where the firewall blocks some traffic which causes you to disconnect. You can fix it by following a set of instructions which involve connecting to the router using Telnet and disabling a function or something.

You can test if its this issue by connecting to a server from the steam browser in windows rather than starting the game first and connecting from there. Apparently the issue doesnt come into play when you connect using this method.

It shouldnt be hard to find instructions for this since its quite a well known issue.

I've been crashing recently on certain servers that have their own custom file crap. I always had it not to download any custom files from servers i tried with it allowing custom stuff now and it fixes that issue i have been having.

Unfortunately, since a firmware update, you can't use Telnet to change the configuration of the BT Home Hub. I used this method, and it stopped the problem, but now it doesn't work. :(

You can, however, roll-back the firmware on the Home Hub and then apply the fix. There was a thread about this a while back; I can't seem to find it, though.

Alternatively, I think if you wait over 60 seconds after refreshing the server list before connecting to one you should't get disconnected. I think there's some sort of "time-out" thing in place, or something. I'm not sure about this, though, so don't quote me on it!

EDIT: I found the thread I was talking about!

Do you use the BT Home Hub? I have the same problem with the Home Hub, now every time I play TF2 I have to reconnect my old DLink router.

Yep I do - if a BT home hub is white and has a little phone thing on it. Got it a few weeks ago when we left eclipse and joined the BT revowushun!

I never got disconnected, however, until this weekend.

I'll see if i can dig up some destructions for telnettage. I haven't a clue which version firmware it has though.

Hmm maybe it's port forwarding I need to set up - don't think I've yet done that on the new router.

Anyone know off the top of their heads which ports?

I did know which ports they were but I can't remember now, sorry. I tried absolutely everything and the only thing that worked was opening up the command prompt and telnetting into the routers configuration.

There's a thread on the Steam forums about this, am I allowed to like to it here?
