hey guys. I booted TF2 up for the first time in months, and the game seems sluggish especially in big gunfights. I use to get 60+ fps before the updates? is their any fix for this ? anyone else experiencing it?

Turning shadows to low helped me and in multiplayer advanced turn off use glow effect for payload objects.

I feel the same mate. Have come back to it now that uni is finished and also feel my fps has dropped. No settings changed or anything. Weird....

TF2 has been running ropey ever since Engineer update came out, and the latest official maps highlight the problem to the extreme.

Since the last few updates the particle effects have been eating up fps. Lots and lots of people complaining about it over at steampowered.com. I used to get 70+fps with high graphical settings before the updates and now I get between 20-50fps.

I have noticed it go slower on the new maps, I just assumed it was my housemate trying to download something at the same time!

PK!

i have same big fps drop after steam gui update on my second pc , disabling speedstep worked for me.

as i noticed when while playing tf2 speedstep was still kicking in

Another problem the game is designed for 12v12 but most servers are 32 man and isntant respwan. This adds a lot of extra lag even more so on payload maps where a lot of action happens around the cart.

It's been terrible for me recently. I mainly stick to rocket jump servers where I got a constant 300 fps since there's very rarely more than 1 person on the screen at once, unless lots of people are stuck on the same jump. :p

It's just weird how I get 300 fps in jump servers then join my usual server where all my TF2 friends are (28 person server) and I constantly drop to 40-60 fps with noticeable stuttering. :(

Someone on steam forums posted an email asking about the performance issues and one of the TF2 team members replied that they are working on it. Hopefully the email is legit.

You might as well play Battlefield: Heroes in the meantime, it's practically similar.

Yeah but it was fine before a lot of the most recent updates. Certainly for me, after the war update, my performance dropped considerably. Heck, even people on steampowered.com with I7 processors and 5870/470 GTX gfx cards are getting cruddy performance.

Valve did partially fix the problem recently, then they somehow managed to undo the fix with another update.:(

Anyone had any luck with this?

I'm still getting terrible stuttering and low fps (dropping to single digits in firefights at times) no matter what I do, so far I've tried the following:

Turn off AV
set everything to the lowest possible settings
enable/disable multicore
enable/disable vsync
enable triple buffering
defragged
used very old, new and beta drivers
set sound quality to low
Reinstall of TF2

Been searching Google and Steam forums but can't find anything else to try which might help. It used to run fine on my laptop on medium settings with AA but now is pretty much unplayable.

Thanks
