TF2 FPS

I've noticed my FPS in TF2 go down in the last week or so...

Settings all at high, AA x2.

Specs:
E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
8800GTS
2GB
XP 32-bit

I'm only playing at 1280*1024 as well.

Settings at medium, AA off makes little to no difference.

I used to get no lower than 70fps on 24man servers, now it goes to as low as 40...

It's not like I'm a total FPS junkie who constantly monitors it - I only turned the FPS counter on when I noticed lower FPS in-game. Is this expected with my specs or should I be looking more into seeing whats up.

I think the dips aren't really GPU related but CPU related as the game isn't multithreaded. Try overclocking your CPU to about 3.6ghz and report back on the performance

The reason it spikes is that there is more on screen than the CPU can cope with at the clockspeed. I notice it a lot on my quad if I have it at stock 2.4ghz opposed to overclocked at 3.2+.

aye, it'll be my first OC so I haven't got round to trying it

I will definitely go for it sometime before Christmas. Need to get it sorted for the new games coming
