Hello,

I have a few TF2 items, I have played TF2 here and there, not exactly a game I have played a lot.

I have something a lot of people refer to as a #40 crate:

http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Mann_Co._Supply_Crate

I get asked at least 3 times a week, by total strangers if I am trading it. No is my answer, everytime. I apologies explaining I don't with to trade any items and it's not out of spite.

I don't have a key to open the crate btw.

Anyway, some get REAL nasty when I turn them down... What is so special about this bloody crate that I have to endure abuse for?

For a start it's out of production, you can only get it via trading as it doesn't drop anymore. And every weapon that comes from that crate will be "special" by default so it will track and count kills.

If you don't want it you might be able to sell it on the community market (in steam), you could browse through the market to see what it's selling for in real cash.

Really? People will actively sell this stuff? I have been offered a few games for it before haha.

I just don't see the reason for the abuse behind it!

£14... Did go up to an average of £25! That's insane!

Put it up for £25.

The harassment and abuse is down to the individuals being idiots. I have a few "rare" items and I just ignore the trade requests, as I want to keep the items.

A quick look on TF2 Spreadsheet (yes, I know!) reveals the crate is worth 10 keys if it is the "Salvaged Mann Co. Supply Crate (series 40)". Remember each key costs £1.99, so that's worth nearly £20 in keys.

In trading people assume you don't know how much things are worth. For example someone offered me a couple of keys for my ear buds, to the uninitiated that might seem like a good deal, until you check to see they're worth about 25 keys!

I'd sell it personally as I'm not a collector, but it's your call. :)

Or as I've been so ace in explaining this stuff you could give it to me for a nice hat ;)

There are people who run virtual PC's with many instances and accounts of TF2 in idle servers to pick up lots of drops. This gives them the chance to pick up a higher likelihood of special items. They then trade these items to their main account and use the market to make cash.

If you have the time and the inclination, why not! I wish I had thought of it, rather than just playing to unwind after work!!!

I will give you a very genuine thank you :) And a internet cookie.

I have put it up for sale at £25 haha, wishful thinking. But you never know.

No worries :)

The only thing I'd say is that with so many for sale at £13.47 you not going to get looked at for quite a while.

Well the prices spike daily, yesterday was £25, it would cover the cost of Bioshock Infinite haha.
