Alright I'm going to cave in and give TF2 a go as theres so much talk about it. Is £14 from Steam the cheapest to acquire it from? Bledd mentioned you can get it for £8 but I can't see this anywhere unless he may of been mistaken :(

I never play games online (besides WoW 2 years ago) as I really suck amongst avid multiplayers, I only play singleplayer games so I have a lot to learn about joining servers etc.

Having read TF2 threads on OcUK, Hampshire Heavies and GTFO Gaming seem to be the servers to join?

Also it looks like OcUK have TF2 events which would be fun to get my ass kicked by fellow OcUKers ;) once I know what's going on though lol

I really fancy specialising playing as a medic, is this a good idea?

Thanks for any tips or links to pages I may have missed :)

depends what you want to do and what u want out of the game. first of all give all the classes a go. the HH and GTFO are normally experianced players so might not be the best place to start as you might not enjoy it as you may die a lot, but depends how fast you learn :p

edit: to begin with just find and play on a few good ping public servers, that way you can kick some ass pretty quick. Then start on the clan servers were you can then build on what you have learnt + new tactics etc

edit2: the HH also have a forum thread about tips and tricks in TF2 here:

Yep, those are definitely good servers to go for. Hampshire Heavies is very packed sometimes though, you might want to add the Mulitplay servers as well for more choice.

Well any class is a "good idea", they all are needed and have their own ups and downs. If you like the idea of healing your mates and being on the front lines a lot, then this is your best choice.

I checked one site (the biggest one) and they still have the orange box in stock for £13.30 which has tf2, portal and hl2, and hl2 episode 1 and hl2 episode 2. So 5 games for less than the price of one - I think that's slightly better value than what steam is offering ;) (It also has tf2 standalone for £10.)

Medic can be very fun as you can easily change the game. Try and get kritzkrieg asap and the most important thing for you is to STAY ALIVE until your uber is full.

I'd stay far away from GTFO servers as they aren't vanilla with instant spawn and all sorts of crap. HH servers are good, as is THG and b2b.

Ok on it now, thanks

Ye that's exactly what I'm looking for :)

I'm keen to start downloading it asap and start playing today, besides I have already played HL2 etc. I was just wondering if there was some discount code or something I was missing or something but if it's £14 to download immediately then that's what it has to be lol

Thanks for all replies :)

Yes, it'd be much better to get the Orange Box than simply TF2 off of Steam. The Orange Box is awesome value for money ;)

I simply love TF2 to bits, a very enjoyable game imo :) The different classes offer varied gameplay and some of the maps are excellent. I'd very much recommend it :)

so to begin with just play on TF2 servers within steam? or is there other places to get public servers (you can tell I'm noob at online play can't you)

Just launch the game, and from there there is a server browser which can help you find online games :)

woohoo played my first game (arena) and was at the top of the list after the round - I was a healing heavy machine altho I have no idea what I'm doing besides sticking with the heavy. So far very fun tho :D

I need to read up a bit on how to play better - can a medic heal himself or does he have to wait until health auto generates?

Also is there a way to detect a spy in disguise - the punks always one shot kill me from behind :(

Ok I'm on that server now Arjun

You cant heal yourself, you just regenerate.

Disgused spys will burn if a pyro ifnites them, they take damage and also you canot run through them like you can your own team mates. The biggest giveaway is one who comes up with your name :)!

Some of the GTFO servers are vanilla respawn. And they are good servers to be honest. That's where I play. Server 4 is normally normal vanilla respawn. Server 1 is instant however. They don't have have all sorts of crap on them either. Don't know what you're on about there.

Is it worth doing the achievements for the medic? and what are achievement servers?

Apologies for all the questions guys but I'm slowly getting there, thanks for all the help so far :)
