TF2 Unlockables

Looks like the news of a gameplay shift in TF2 is actually quite major:

I think they should have left TF2 as it is for a bit longer, maybe introduced some new maps, before introducing a change like this. But it'll be interesting nonetheless. Opinions?

I heard they were planning some major gameplay changes along with the remake of Badlands. What are the changes?

They're introducing unlockable weapons, given to you when you complete a certain number of achievements (they're introducing a helluva lot of new achievements as well). The medic's going to be first with two new kinds of healing gun - one will heal a lot faster and give more health, but will not uber as fast, if at all.
There's also a new type of map coming, involving a mine cart which blue have to get from one end of the map to another while red defend. The cart moves faster when there are lots of blue around it.
